AVENTURA, Florida (Press Release) – South Florida will be home to a second professional basketball team – the Miami Midnites – the official professional developmental team of the 2012-13 Israeli Super League champion Maccabi Haifa basketball club. The Miami Midnites were founded by Triangle Entertainment, a sports and entertainment firm based in Aventura, Florida, which owns the Maccabi Haifa professional basketball club as well as sponsors the Santos professional basketball team in Lima, Peru.
The Midnites will debut in the Florida Basketball Association (FBA), a five-team professional Summer league, with their first home game on Sunday, May 11 at 7:30 pm. The team will play their home games out of the David Posnack Jewish Community Center in Davie, Florida with ticket prices set at $5 per person.
“The goal of the Miami Midnites is to showcase local talent in Florida and to find those ‘diamonds in the rough’, while providing a feeder system to our professional basketball teams in both Israel and Peru,” said Triangle Chairman and Miami Midnites owner, Jeffrey Rosen. “The Miami Midnites will provide an affordable and family-friendly atmosphere for fans to watch up-and-coming local Florida talent.”
The Midnites will be spearheaded by one of Miami’s most successful head coaches, Shakey Rodriguez, who won 5 State titles at Miami High and has accumulated a career record of 685-161 (.810) in 25 years of coaching at both the high school and collegiate levels. Rodriguez, who also coached NCAA Division I FIU for 5 seasons, was inducted into the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2012.
“I’m looking forward to working with this outstanding and professional organization,” said Rodriguez. “My love of coaching basketball continues to this day. We will have an exciting hard working team that plays the game the right way. I look forward to the challenge.”
As a part of a 12-game season schedule, the Midnites will host seven home games at the David Posnack J.C.C. over the summer.
