Col. Irving Salomon Next Forum Speaker

Col. Irving Salomon, United Nations representative and prominent Republican leader, will be the next speaker at the Forum Lecture Series, Wednesday, Jan. 6, at the Jewish Community Center, 3227 El Cajon Blvd.
Col Salomon has recently returned from a visit to Europe where he talked on behalf of the United States and for the United Nations on economic affairs. He is well qualified to discuss the world situation and will bring his thorough knowledge to bear on the local scene, too.
Living at his ranch in Escondido with his wife and daughter, Col. Salomon is an active member of the San Diego Community and takes an important part in all its activities.

Local Leader To Serve Again in ‘54

Eli H. Levenson who has long been active in San Diego and in National Jewish affairs will continue on the Board of Directors of the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds during 1954, it was announced by Julian Freeman of Indianapolis, Ind., JFWF president.
Mr. Levenson is president of the Western States Region of the Council, and was president of the Jewish Community Center. He also serves as an executive member of the District Board of B’nai B’rith. For three years, he was president of the United Jewish Fund and the Community Relations Council, during which period the local community organizations gained national recognition for their accomplishments.
The United Jewish Fund is a member agency of the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds.

The Jewish Community Center’s Discussion Group meeting alternate Wednesdays at the Center has arranged the following topics and speakers to complete the “Psychology of Prejudice” series.
Wed. Dec. 16th, 8:00 p.m.—“The Economics of Prejudice” by Dr. Marcus R. Tool, Ass’t. Professor of Economics Dept., San Diego State College.
Wed. Jan. 13th, 8:00 p.m.—Why the Hate—“The Personality of the Bigot” by Dr. Virginia Volks, Ass’t. Professor Psychology Dept., San Diego State College.
Wed., Jan. 27th, 8:00 p.m. “conquering Prejudice” by Mr. Donald Walker, Ass’t. Professor Sociology Dept., San Dieo State College.
This discussion group has been organized to enable its participants to learn more of the subject being presented and to encourage expression of his or her own opinion., All are invited to attend and there is a slight fee.

With New Year’s Eve fast approaching, we wish to remind our members and their friends that a cordial invitation is extended them to attend our first New Year’s eve party. It will be held at Tifereth Israel Center and the committee headed by Chavera Bertha Veitzer and her co-chairman, Chavera Dora Richlin are busily engaged in plans to make this one of the most enjoyable social events of the year.

Teen-Agers Turn Tables On Moms and Pops

Beth Israel Sisterhood’s regular monthly Luncheon meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 30th at 11:45, and promises to be a most interesting and informative one for parents and young people alike. A panel of “Sharp” Teen Agers will take part in a lively discussion on “Bringing Up Father—and Mother, Too.” Rabbi Cohn will be Moderator.
The subject under discussion will be “The Teen Agers’ Greatest Problems,” so prepare yourself for many frank and surprising revelations. Bring your own problem and hear how these alert young panelists solve them.
For children under 12, who might get restless, special movies will be shown in another room during the meeting. A special luncheon price of 50 cents has been set for Teen Agers.

’54 To Be Ushered In At Park Manor Hotel

Reservations are again in order for the much requested, popular open New Year’s Eve Party sponsored by the Young Jewish Couples Club.
The swank Manor Room of the Park Manor Hotel will be decked out for the evening. Harlen Boucher’s well known band will provide the dance music. A prime-rib full course dinner is to be served at 9:30 p.m. Drinks, favors, etc., wil be provided by the Club. Arrangements have been made with the management for table reservations for guests and their party. All this will cost only $15.00 per couple.

Camp Jaycee Opens Winter Camp

Wednesday, December 16 is the last day for registering youngsters (5-12) for the Camp Jaycee Winter Vacation Day Camp, to be held at the Jewish Community Center—3227 El Cajon Blvd. The program will begin Monday, December 21st and will operate for 8 days (9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.) ending Thursday, December 31st. Many special activities such as trips, swim parties, camp cookouts are being scheduled, under the supervision of some of the outstanding summer Camp Counselors. The camp will furnish milk and refreshments to the campers own lunch. Special bus pick-up and delivery service will be arranged. Call T-1-7744 for further information.

Hats decorated to represent the business or profession of their husbands will be the feature of the comedy Millinery Show planned by members of Birdie Stodel Chapter of B’nai B’rith for their next regular luncheon meeting, Monday, Dec 14, 12 noon at Temple Center. A Comedy Skit will be presented with the Millinery Show.
Luncheon chairmen are Jennie Bloomfeld and Bertha Friedman.
B’nai B’rith Girls will present a Youth Program for the meeting to be held Dec. 29 at Temple Center, at 8:00 p.m.

Southern Calif. Council Meeting—Laskert Lodge delegates attended the November 30th meeting of the Southern California council of B’nai B’rith Lodges in Los Angeles. Ed Baranov, Ted Brav, Ed Breitbard, Ralph Feldman, Mickey Fredman, Morrie Kraus, Jack Lowenbein, Julius Penn, Harry Wax, and Marshall Zucker were present. Principal business was the election of All Hirsch of Wilshire Lodge as the new 3rd Vice President.
Supreme President To Visit San Diego—Harry Wax, President of Lasker Lodge, announced that Phliup Klutznick, Supreme President of the order will visit San Diego in early February.
Membership Contest—Marshall Zucker, Membership Chairman, stated that the contest still has a few days to run until the December 15th closing date. Members are urged to turn in applications now.
Meeting Notices—December 14th meeting will be the election of officers. Only contest in the election is for trustees with three of the four nominated to be elected. Nominees are: Jerry Aronoff, Sam Bennett, Ted Brav, and Al Hutler. Monday night, December 28th will be the last meeting of the year with special refreshments provided by outgoing and incoming Presidents, Harry Wax and Ralph Feldman.
