Leahy schedules Jan. 20 hearing on Christmas Day bombing plot

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Press Release) – Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (Democrat, Vermont) has scheduled a hearing for January 20 to examine the effectiveness of anti-terrorism tools and inter-agency communication in the wake of the thwarted Christmas Day airline attack.  Leahy first announced his intention to schedule the hearing in Vermont on Friday. 

The Judiciary Committee has jurisdiction over many executive agencies involved in anti-terrorism efforts, including the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, components of the Department of Homeland Security, and visa related programs administered through the State Department. 

The hearing, entitled “Securing America’s Safety: Improving the Effectiveness of Anti-Terrorism Tools and Inter-Agency Communication,” will be held on Wednesday, January 20, at 10:00 a.m.  Leahy is expected to invite testimony from administration officials, and a witness list is expected to be announced in the coming days.  The hearing will be webcast live online.
