Ben Snyder Leads Jewish War Veterans

In their annual election of officers held March 2 and the War Memorial Bldg., San Diego Post 185 elected the following officers: Commander, Ben Snyder; Vice Commanders, Sidney Steckel, John Kluchen; Finance Officer, J. David Brooks; Service Officer, Joe Spatz; Sick Call Officer, William Mintz; Judge Advocate, Bud Samuels. Trustees elected were LeRoy Seckler, Isadore Silberman and Martin Starr. Dr. Milton Millman was appointed Medical Officer.
Installation will be held April 20th when the Americanism and Patriotism Award will be given to a San Diegan yet to be named. Previous holders of this award are Joe Spatz and Edward Breitbard.
It was also passed that meetings of the membership will be held the third Wednesday of every month.

President Ray Lowitz has announced plans for a “Nite of Fun” party which will take place on Wednesday, March 23rd for members and prospective members. Elaborate plans have been made for a most entertaining evening.
In answer to the many phone calls received on behalf of our YoMaCo Memorial Fund, the JCC Committee has presented some highly constructive proposals to the club.
From time to time, we will make every endeavor to advise all those who are so interested as to our progress. Sid Rose, Norman Gelman, Leonard Zlotoff aned Al Solomon are doing a splendid job to make this a very successful and worthwhile project.

Temple Plans Seder

Plans for the annual Temple Beth Israel Seder are well underway. The date is April 6, and, under the direction of Rabbi Morton J. Cohn, a beautiful service is planned, with the Sisterhood in charge of the traditional menu.
Mrs. Marvin Jacobs is accepting the necessarily limited number of reservations (Temple members and affiliated groups only). She can be reached at JU 2-5364.
The price for the dinner has been set at $4 for adults and $1.75 for children.

Temple Men’s Club To Show Fine Film

The next meeting of the Temple Beth Israel Men’s Club will feature an unusual program. Arrangements have been made to show a new color film release, “The Stones Cry Out,” Tuesday night, March 22nd.
This movie will present archaeological findings which verify Biblical prophecies. It will answer questions such as why the Golden Gate in the wall of Jerusalem was sealed shut years ago or what corrupt civilizations have crumbled to fulfill Biblical prophecy.
In addition to the above program election of officers for the coming year will be held.

B.B. Girls

The B’nai B’rith Girls had as their guest at their last meeting Mrs. Gordon of the City Schools who discussedteen-age problems.
Many more activities are being planned among them a mock Seder which will be held with the A.Z.A boys.
Any girls, between the ages of fourteen and eighteen, may come to our meetings every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month, at Beth Jacob Center, 7 p.m.

U.J.F. Campaign Chairmen Are Announced

Organization of the 22nd United Jewish Fund Campaign neared completion today with the acceptance of area and division chairmanships announced by Max Rabinowitz, general campaign chairman, and David Sapp and Edward A Breitbard, vice-chairmen.
Abe Eidex, Escondido business leader, accepted the chairmanship of the Escondido-Vista area.
Arthur L. Cohen, Coronado real estate broker, will lead the island campaign, while Ben Carnot, La Jolla laundry executive, will chair the La Jolla section.
Other appointments announced were business district chairman, William Schwartz; downtown, David Stotsky and Robert Strauss; Hillcrest, Edward Breier and Louis Jacobs; El Cajon Boulevard, Herbert Reder.
Trades chairmen appointed were Harry Sugarman for Real Estate and Finance; Ben Harris and Jerry Freedman, Furniture; Milton Roberts, Apparel; Abe Sklar, Locker Clubs, Julius Levin and Norman Gelman, Tires and Auto Supplies; Yale Kahn and Zel Camiel, Beverages, and Seymour Radin and Maury Novak, Foods; Jack Spatz and Irving Schneider, Jewelry.
In the professions, Edward Baranov will head accountants and Norman Seltzer, attorneys.
Others appointed to date are Dr. Richard Disraeli for Dentists; Dr. Oscar Rabin, Physicans, Dr. Seymour Kuntz, Optometrists.
Teachers will be chaired by Edward Janowski and Leonard Sherr; Social Workers by Mrs. Arthur Lennard.
“Magic Carpet Day,” the drive’s one day cleanup campaign, will be led by Bernard Arenson and Mrs. Harry Wax.

LOS ANGELES – Seventy one Southern California residents contributed $14,000 to Gerald L. K. Smith’s Christian Nationalist Crusade in 1954, according to a report released here by the Pacific Southwest Regional Office of the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith.
The information was culled from a sworn statement filed by the Crusade with the Clerk of the U.S. Huse of Representatives, pursuant to the Corrupt Practics Act. Under the law only contributors of $100,00 or more must be listed. In San Diego, H.B. Green gave $345.00 in 953 and $150,00 in 1954. P.L Wood gave $162.00 in 1953 and $180.00 in 1955.

Election of Anderson Borthwick, president of the First National Trust and Savings Bank of San Diego, as a director of the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company has been announced by Mark R. Sullivan, president of the company.
Mr. Borthwick is this year’s leader of the Christian Committee of the United Jewish Fund Combined Appeal.

Cancer Crusade Chairman

Appointment of Col. Emmett A. McCabe, USAF (ret) as Chairman of the 1955 Cancer Crusade, was announced by Gordon McNary, President of the San Diego Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Col. McCabe is well known as advertising director at Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corp.
The annual crusade will get under way in San Diego County on April 1, and at the saem time will be given the green light by county chapters across the nation. The campaign chairman will announce names of members of a cabinet to head the crusade within a few days, he said.

P.T.A. Sponsors Sale County Fair Tickets

A county-wide sale of reduced admission tickets for this summer’s Southern California Exposition and County Fair at Del Mar, June 24 through July 4, will begin late this month, Paul T. Mannen, secretary-manager, announced this week.
This advance sale will be sponsored by units of the Ninth District Parent-Teachers Assn. Tickets will sell for the special price of 50c. A portion of this amount will be divided by participating units and the San Diego Childrens Dental Center. Children’s tickets also will be sold at the rate of 25c each.
The regular admission price will be 85c, Mannen said. IT will go into effect June 15 when the PTA completes its advance sales.

Easter Sales Make Annual Appeal

That’s the slogan fo the 1955 Easter Seal Campaign.
But, in any event, the San Diego Society for Crippled Children, local sponsor of the appeal, asks that you not return the Easter Seals you received.
Mrs. Robert G. Thompson, drive chairman, asks that you use the seals on your mail throughout the year. Pointing out that by doing so you are helping crippled children by spreading the word that crippled children need help.
Furthermore, she promises you will not be billed and will not receive follow-up card or letter if you do not return your seals.
