SAN DIEGO (Press Release)-The University of San Diego has partnered with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum to host a professional development opportunity for secondary school teachers.
USD’s School of Leadership and Education Sciences will host the free professional development opportunity this Friday, October 8 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Warren Auditorium, Mother Rosalie Hill Hall.
“Teaching about the Holocaust” is designed to support teachers of grades 6-12 with tools for curriculum design and teaching methods for this dark period in world history. This full day program offers interactive learning, connections to local survivors groups and resources, hands-on program development tools and resource sharing. Each registrant will receive a certificate of participation, lunch, and valuable printed resources for use in your classroom.
Holocaust survivor, Hannah Marx will speak at the event. Marx was born in Germany and deported to the Riga ghetto in Lithuania in 1941. From there she was transferred to the Stutthof concentration camp in Poland. She was liberated at the end of the war in the Poland “death march” when Nazi soldiers evacuating prisoners were stopped by advancing Soviet forces. By sharing her experience, Marx will aide teachers in connecting with students on a personal level and brings to life the words in history books.
The Leichtag Foundation has also provided immense support for this event.
