WASHINGTON, D.C. (Press Release) – Congressman Bob Filner (D-San Diego) recently supported new sanctions against Iran by co-sponsoring a bill to eliminate U.S. government funding for companies that supply Iran with cyber spying and Internet censorship technology.
“We cannot allow companies we fund with taxpayer money to support spying and censorship by a violent, undemocratic regime,” said Congressman Filner. “Iran’s abuse of technology to quiet dissent should not be subsidized by the American people.”
The Stand with the Iranian People Act, H.R. 4303, would also deny issuance of U.S. admission to any government official of Iran who is alleged to have participated in human rights abuses. Additionally, it would allow U.S. nonprofit agencies to enter Iran for specified humanitarian assistance.
