Camp Jaycee Opens June 27

Southwestern Jewish Press, April 15 1955, Page 3

The day camp operated by the Jewish Community Center will develop its 1955 program around a mature group of counselors and specialist, according to Leonard Zlotoff, chairman of the program committee.

Albert Hutler, who will supervise camp activities, until a Center Director is hired, stated that the staff of twenty counselors will consist of seven teachers in the San Diego City and County school system.  Seven other counselors will be college students all having previous camping experience.

Top counselors returning for the 1955 season include Dave Anfanger, Bill Murphy, Lester  Tokars and Sunny Demberg.

Included in the Camp program  agenda for the summer are swimming, arts and crafts, nature study, hiking, dancing, horseback riding, excursions and music.  All of these are geared to the level of the Camp.  Inculcation of Jewish orientation is a conscientious aim through the dances, music and crafts.

A special attempt will be made in the swimming area where new emphasis will be place on each child learning to swim.

Registration will be on the basis of “first-come, first-serve” so tht parents are urged to register when the date is set, or to immediately call the Jewish Community Center, AT 1-7444 to signify their intention to register their children.

Mr. Zlotoff announced that the fees for the 1955 would be increased slightly because of increased costs and that again there would be two fees: one for members of the Center and the other for non-members.

Transportation for Camp Jaycee will be provided as usual from various parts of the cty.

Lunches again will be the responsibility of the parents but the Camp will serve milk and desserts and there will be the usual “cook-outs.”

Announcement of the complete staff will be made shortly by Mr. Zlotoff and a brochure will be mailed within the next 10 days.
