JWV urges Dec. 17 be made an evening for a special Kaddish

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Press Release)– Steve Zeitz, national commander of the Jewish War Veterans, has called on synagogues to set aside the evening of Friday, Dec. 17, as a Shabbat for commemorating losses of Jewish and Allied lives in World War II.

He issued the following statement:

“The JWV is requesting that special memorial prayers be recited at your synagogues on Dec. 17, 2010.

“On Dec. 17, 1944, more than 100 American Prisoners of War were massacred or injured at Baugnez Crossroads near Malmédy, Belgium. It is the most infamous massacre of American troops in World War II.

“On that day we also remember the millions of innocent men, women, and children, both Jewish and non-Jewish, who were murdered in concentration camps from January 30, 1933, to May 8, 1945, by the Nazi regime.

“We hope that this will become an annual event to honor the dead of Malmédy and of the entire Nazi regime.”
