College Avenue Older Adult Center tells December programming

SAN DIEGO (Press Release)– The College Avenue Older Adult Center, operated by Jewish Family Service, in the social hall of Beth Jacob Congregation, 4855 College Avenue, has announced the following programming for December.

Thursday, December 2, 12:45 pm–Dr Barold presents . . . Nutrition Vs Genes, Who’s In Control? We know that our genes dictate whether we have blue eyes or brown eyes, blond hair or black hair, and whether our skin is light or dark. But how much control do genes really have over our health and well being? The medical establishment for decades has positioned our genes as the overwhelming factor determining our current and future health. But thanks in large part to the profound discoveries stemming from the Human Genome Project, we now know this is far from the whole story. Nutrition, environment, attitude and lifestyle, we have learned, weigh in as much or more than our genes when it comes to determining our future health.

Friday, December 3 , 12 pm–Chanukah party. Celebrate the Festival of Lights with the College Avenue Center. We will have a special Chanukah lunch with a traditional Chanukah meal of latkes, sufganiyot and more. Musical entertainment by, Yochanan Sebastian Winston. There is a suggested donation for lunch of $3.50 for seniors and $6 for all others.

Friday, December 17, 12:30 pm–Tim “Steelbone” Cook

A Cajun kickin’, toe tappin’ fun time with music by Tim “Steelbone” Cook. He has a variety of wide musical styles, sometimes playing steel guitar, trombone and Tex-Mex button box on the same song. He has his own band that play all over Southern California.

Tuesday, December 21, 12:45 pm–Museum of Photographic Arts Outreach Tour

A curator from the MoPA will be visiting the College Avenue Center with a carefully curated set of photos from the Museum’s permanent collect and then facilitate a discussion. The Outreach tour is participatory and encourage social interaction between the participants by discussing each image amongst each other and MoPA staff. The goal of the tour is to have seniors share their experiences and insight in relation to the images presented.

Thursday, December 30, 12 pm–New Year’s Party

Join us for a New Year’s celebration with the musical stylings of Bob Constantine. There is a suggested donation for lunch, of $3.50 for seniors and $6 for all others.

The College Avenue Center also offers hot Kosher lunches served Monday – Friday at 12 Noon. Soup & Salad Bar offered Mondays – Wednesdays from 11:30am-12:30pm
