Hey Gals!  Hot stuff right from the horse’s mouth (the prettiest horse you ever did see.)  Our Senior Sponsors, God bless their active JWB-USO souls, are going to do us honor for our service to the military.  Remember that gang of them who showed up last Wednesday night and went to some secret room at the back of the Temple House.  Well, here’s what they have cooked up.

Some time in June, date to be announced, they are going to host a luncheon for us at the Admiral Kidd U.S. Naval Officers Club.  This is just the beginning; I promised not to reveal the details of the rest of the program.  All I can tell you is it is going to be some real ding-dang stuff.

One catch: if you haven’t already done so, sometime soon you will receive a letter from Mrs. Kaplan which will indicate your level of participation as a Junior Hostess.  It will also indicate to you that the month of May is crucial for you in terms of your attendance at USO-JWB events.  So start planning now, Gals, for all out attendance in May.

We hear by the grapevine that Junior Hostess Carole Simmons and her fiancé, Bobby Goldstone, are the recipients of a 1955 Olds Holiday in advance of their wedding scheduled for May 29th. This from Bobby’s parents.  Also received word from Jordie Biener, currently the rave of various and sundry Japanese ports and  Freddy Gugick, mooning away  down in Honolulu for the day of his return to San Diego.  Also, Marty Marks, former eligible Ensign, is now on the ineligible list, married by Rabbi DeSola Pool in New York to a very beautiful Sephardi.

Yo-Ma –Co Club
Southwestern Jewish Press, April 29, 1955, Page 7

We will be privileged to have as Yo-Ma-Co guests the famed Convair square dancers.  Those of you who have not had the pleasure of being entertained by this sensational group are in for a most enjoyable evening.

Please be on hand at the next meeting, for only by your attendance can you give your vote of confidence to the J.C.C. Committee who are paving the way toward raising funds to inaugurate a concrete project of which all Yo-Ma-Co members can be justly proud. We need your help.  Get your rummage together – we’ll need all you can give.

Hostesses for the April meeting will be Sada Cohen, Ruth Okum and Barbara Miller.

‘Look Mom’ No Hands Say Telephone Co.
Southwestern Jewish Press, April 29, 1955, Page 7

Telephones that you can operate without using your hands are now available to local residents for the first time.

Called a “No Hands Telephone,” they are a combination of a regular set and an additional speaker for incoming calls.  They have the advantage of permitting a user to do things with both hands while carrying on  a conversation. They also can be used for a conference type call in which several people join the conversation on one end of the line.

To operate the device, all that is necessary is to press a button, dial a number and wait for someone to answer. From then on, one can carry on a conversation as if the person called were sitting in the same room.
