Flash!  This is it, Jr. Hostesses!  The USO-JWB Jr. Hostess Luncheon will be held at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Officers Club on June 18. Details are still not worked out for a tour of the carrier Kearsarge. Will keep you posted.

A wonderful evening May 11 was had by all thanks to the Lasker Lodge, B’nai B’rith Armed Services “Chief” Jerry Aronoff.  A jitterbug contest was held and the winners were Leani Leitchtag and Mike Napolitano. Lucy Recht and Bernie Muntifering came in second.  The first prizes were a gold ring and cuff links. The second prizes consisted of a gold locket and a wallet.  Congratulations.

A letter of hello and goodbye was received from our U.S.O. J.W.B. office from Art Kaiser currently at Great Lakes.  He becomes a civilian in two weeks.

In June 30 Jewish Officers will be graduating from Military Acaemies: Merchant Marine, Army, Navy, and Coast Guard.  Here’s hoping that some, if not all of them will be stationed here in San Diego.

Ex-Jr. Hostess and Ex-Sailor Carol Simmons and Bob Goldstone will be married May 29 by Rabbi Morton J. Cohn at Temple beth Israel. The reception will be held at the Mission Valley Country Club.  Best wishes to you both.

We’d like to express or deepest sympathy to Howie Taylor, whose father passed away.

Note:  The U.S.O.-J.W.B. is moving July 1 from the Spreckels Bldg. to Tifereth Israel Center. They will occupy what is now the Library Room.

That’s Thirty!  Watch the column for details on the Jr. Hostess Luncheon.

We have always admired finesse and perfectionism as attained by the true artist –be he a sculptor, bulldozer operator, male hairdresser or knaydel maker. It is thus that we submit the name of a Guardian as the most completely relaxed individual we have ever observed: A man who twice has fallen asleep at the dinner table, dozed off while watching Jai Alai and cat-napped intermittently during a Marilyn Monroe flicker – we give you – Sam Sosna!

*
A crowd of kibitzers had elbowed their way around the hotly contested pinochle game. Cards were slapped noisily to the table with thunderous reverberations – the bidders noisily speculated on all the important three cards—spades double – chips were exchanged quickly.  It was then that the quartet of players – Irv Kahn, Sam Berger, Dave Sapp and Yale Kahn were paternally interrupted by “A.J.” who asked simply of Irv: “What’s the stakes?” and Irv answered promptly: “Tenth of a cent a hundred, Dad.”  “A.J.” then walked away with the satisfaction that his two boys were in good company.

*
Tentative arrangements all for our newly elected Mayor Charles C. Dail to attend the June 2nd meeting. A large turn-out is anticipated to welcome His Honor.
