70% Reached in UJA Drive; 350 Balk Success
Southwestern Jewish Press, June 10, 1955, Page 1

Fund General Campaign Chairman Max Rabinowitz announced that the campaign has reached 70 percent of its goal and 85 percent of the amount raised last year.

Though the campaign “money-wise” and in comparison of contributors gifts, is still over 9 percent ahead of last year, Rabinowitz indicated dissatisfaction with the slowness of the drive at this point.

“Only 350 prospective contributors,” he said, “are holding up the success of the drive. If they would give their contributions now, we could close the campaign with more than we raised in 1954.”

First division to go over the top ws the Christian division led by Anderson Borthwick, which had exceeded the 1854 results by raising $9,464 to date.

Following closely o the success of the Christian Division. the Women’s division is within 6 percent of the 1954 results.

Nathan Golden, president of the Hatikvah club of Tijuana, announced that the campaign in Lower California—Tijuana and Ensenada—would open during the month of July.  He anticipated that approximately $2,000 will be raised in this area in comparison to $900 in 1954.

Mr. Rabinowitz urged all workers to intensify their efforts and to contact their prospects immediately.  “With the coming of summer,” Rabinowitz stated, “it is natural to slack down on fund work.  However, we must keep going at this time, so that we can finish as early as possible.”

Those who have not as yet made their contribution are urged to do so by sending it to the United Jewish Fund office, 333 Plaza, San Diego 1, Calif.
