U of Haifa’s School of Social Work faculty to help provide post-fire counseling

HAIFA (Press Release)–The University of Haifa’s School of Social Work has set out to provide assistance to the Regional Council of Hof Hacarmel in the wake of the massive fire.

Hof Hacarmel is the regional council responsible for managing much of the area affected by the great fire in the Carmel Mountains over the past four terrifying days.

The School of Social Work has offered the volunteer services of its faculty qualified to provide therapy, and the offer has been gladly taken up by the council.

On Sunday, Dec. 5, five faculty members of the School of Social Work met with the professional authorities in the Hof Hacarmel Regional Council and participated in an instructive session with the Service Bureau and the Psychological Services. They were allocated to work teams and will be providing support and assistance to residents evacuated from their homes and who need help.

“The University of Haifa’s School of Social Work believes that its commitment includes providing a service to a community that is in a state of emergency and trauma; and we have the professionals qualified to do so,” Said Prof. Faisal Azaiza, Head of the School. University President Prof. Aaron Ben-Ze’ev added that the University of Haifa will assist in every area of research and treatment that it has available.
