SAN DIEGO (Press Release) — Great minds and inspiring speakers from Europe, Israel and all over the United States with all gather for one powerful day of communal Jewish learning on Sunday January 30, from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center at 4126 Executive Dr., La Jolla, 92037 at the Agency for Jewish Education’s 6th annual “Yom Limmud: San Diego’s Community Day of Learning” event.
Each hour, attendees of all ages from children, teens and adults will have multiple choices of interactive, dynamic sessions to experience the best speakers in their field sharing fascinating historical discussions, education on the latest perspective on Israel, in‐depth Torah learning and ending the day with a celebratory, uplifting funkadyllic folk music concert.

This Yom Limmud event, chaired by two esteemed community leaders, Jackie Semha Gmach and Jack Maizel, will remember and celebrate the lives of three extraordinary San Diego Jewish Educators; Nomi Levy, z”l, Sara “Chacha” Rubinstein, z”l & Marty Wertlieb, z”l, who our community sadly lost this past year. In a meaningful collaboration, the San Diego Jewish Community Foundation will immediately follow Yom Limmud with a “Book of Life” signing, where community members who have designated gifts to non‐profit organizations after their passing, sign a symbolic “Book of Life” acknowledging their gift for the next generation.
The impressive Yom Limmud line‐up of presenters includes:
• Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Dan Halutz, former Chief of Staff of the IDF is a graduate of Tel Aviv University and
received a B.A. in economics. Halutz was promoted to the rank of lieutenant‐general and served
as the 18th IDF Chief of General Staff until his resignation in February 2007.
• Dr. Raphael Zarum, Head of the London School of Jewish Studies (LSJS), the centre of modern
orthodox Jewish learning in the UK. He is a Jerusalem Fellows Graduate (Mandel School), holds a
PhD in Quantum Chaos Theory and an MA in Adult Education.
• Rabbi Dr. Bradley Shavit Artson, Dean and Chair of the Abner and Roslyn Goldstine at the Ziegler
School of Rabbinic Studies of American Jewish University.
• Seth Glass, composer, songwriter and singer who toured with Reb Shlomo Carlebach, z’’l,
features soulful concerts with beautiful music based on Jewish themes and texts.
• Samuel Klein, Executive Director of The Coexistence Trust (CT), an international parliamentary
network of senior Muslim and Jewish political leaders worldwide based in the House of Lords
and the spiritual leader of Minyan Lev Simcha in London.
• Dr. Rachel Adler, Professor of Modern Jewish Thought and Judaism and Gender at Hebrew
Union College‐Los Angeles. She is the author of Engendering Judaism which won the National
Jewish Book Award for Jewish Thought and many articles.
• Professor Stephen Berk of Holocaust and Jewish Studies, Union College, Schenectady, NY.
• Dr. Rachel Korazim, the former Academic Director of Distance Learning programs at the Jewish
Agency for Israel (JAFI) Department of Education.
• Roz Rothstein, national director of StandWithUs, an international education organization that
ensures that Israel’s story is told in communities, campuses, the media and more.
• Professor Ethan Hollander of political science, Wabash College, Crawfordsville, Indiana.
• A Panel of Local Rabbis, “God, Torah, and Israel: A Personal Conversation among Rabbis of
Different Denominations” with Rabbi Michael Berk (Congregation Beth Israel), Rabbi Philip
Graubart (Congregation Beth El), Rabbi Moishe Leider (Chabad of University City) and Rabbi Yael
Ridberg (Congregation Dor Hadash). Moderated by Audrey Jacobs.
