Mack criticizes Latin American countries recognizing Palestinian independence

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Press Release) – Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14), the Ranking Republican of the House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, issued the following statement on Friday, Dec. 10, about Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay’s recent recognition of Palestine and Chile’s potential to follow suit.

Mack said:

“I am extremely disappointed in the recent detrimental actions taken by the presidents of Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay. The declarations made by the leaders of these nations to unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state along heavily debated and undefined borders demonstrate their will to work counter to an internationally-supported negotiation process between Israel and the Palestinians.

“Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula has previously demonstrated his lack of respect for international pressure on dangerous leaders such as Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Now he is pulling Latin America in a dangerous direction with his recognition of a Palestinian state on the so-called 1967 borders….”
