Notice of 22nd Annual Meeting of the United Jewish Fund of San Diego

Take notice that the annual meeting of the united Jewish Fund of San Diego will be held at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, the twenty second (22nd) day of January, 1956, in the Continental Room of the San Diego Hotel.

Take further notice that the Nomination Committee filed its report with the Directors of the United Jewish Fund on Tuesday, November 29, 1955.  The following persons have been nominated for vacancies on the Board of Directors for two-year terms ending January 31, 1958:

Edward Baranov, Mrs. Gabriel Berg, Edward Breitbard, William Carter, William Colt, Carl Esenoff, Milton Fredman, Jack Gross, Rubin Horrow, Irvin Kahn, Dr. A.P. Nasatir, Elliot Cushman, Milton Roberts, Harry Snyder, Albert Steinbaum, Robert Spiegel, David Stotsky, San Sussman, Ruben Umanksy, Alexander Wise.

The following was nominated to fill a vacancy for a one year term ending January 31, 1957:  Mrs. Herbert Eber.

Further nominations of any member of the United Jewish Fund may be made by petition signed by 5 members of the United Jewish Fund with said petition bearing written acceptance of nominee; said petition must be presented to the Secretary of the United Jewish Fund on or before January 18, 1956.

City of Hope Presents Famed Surgeon December 12

Dr. Ralph Byron Jr., Chief of Surgeons at the City of Hope Research and Medical Center, Duarte, California, will address a dinner0meeting of the Christian Business Committee on Monday, December 12th, 6:30 p.m. at Helen Thomsen’s Café del Rey Moro, Balboa Park.  Make your reservation with Ethel Berwin, Jeanne Camiel. This is quite a feather in our cap.

Nomination and election of officers will take place at the next meeting on Tuesday, December 20th at the Beth Jacob Center—luncheon served at 12 noon.

Women’s League of Center Plan Lunch

The Women’s League of the J.C.C. will hold their next meeting at the Haynes Streamliner on January 6th, noon.

Mr. Arthur Norris, who is known as “Mr. Great Books” of San Diego will give one of his delightful and informal talks on “Self Control in the Modern Women.” A question and answer period will follow.

The Women’s League ill take over the Globe Theatre for the night of January 11th, 1956.  The play, a delightful comedy about teen-agers, “Time Out for Ginger.”  Mr. Craig Noel, director of the Globe Theatre, gave a most interesting talk at the Membershbip Tea of the Women’s League at their last meeting.

Fund Annual Meeting Theme “Lest We Forget” Jan. 22

A milestone in the Jewish Community social welfare program will be marked at the 22nd Annual Meeting of the Untied Jewish Fund to be held Sunday, January 22, according to an announcement by Morris W. Douglas, President of the Fund.,

Douglas also announced the appointment of Harry Sugarman, outstanding communal leader and member of the Boar of the united Jewish Fund, as the Annual Meeting Chairman. 

Theme of the Annual Meeting will be “Lest We Forget” in honor of the tenth year of liberation of the New Americans who have settled in San Diego.

Mr. Sugarmsan said that this theme was selected because San Diego Jewry has responded so nobly to the call to help immigration in 1947.  Over one hundred families were brought to San Diego through the efforts of the Émigré Committee of the United Jewish Fund, and the Jewish Social Service Agency.

Seckler Named JWV Officer

LeRoy Seckler, San Diego attorney has been name as Jr. Vice Commander of San Diego Post 185, JWV. Mr. Seckler has volunteered many hours at the Naval Training Center representing the Jewish war Veterans.

During the football season just concluded, close to 300 Naval Hospital patients were the guests of the Jewish War Veterans at the home games of the San Diego State College team. This proram was carried out by Past Commander Marshall Roth. Mrs. Theresa Furst was present and acted as hostess at every game.

Jolly 16 Club

Rose Nuemann was hostess to the Jolly 16 Club at the luncheon meeting held n December 6th.

A report was given on the progress of the families serviced by the group and individuals were considered for the yearly scholarships presented toHigh School graduates.

Jr. Charity League

At the last meeting of the Junior Charity League it was voted to give a donation to the School for blind children at Berkeley, Calif., in order to purchase toys. The group will also do some volunteer work at the Hebrew Home for the Aged and Edgemoor Farm.

The next meeting, on Monday, December 12th, will be held at the Mission Valley C.C. and will be hostessed by June Sosna and Esther Moorsteen.  Plans will be made for the annual Spring luncheon.
