San Diego Welcomes Solicitor-Gen Sobeloff at Bond Dinner Sunday
Southwestern Jewish Press, January 6, 1956, Page 1
Simon E. Sobeloff of Baltimore, Solicitor General of the United States, who will be honored at a city-wide dinner, Sunday, January 8th, in the El Cortez Hotel, in behalf of Bonds of the Israeli Government, comes to San Diego from a recent testimonial given him in Washington, D.C., where Chief Justice Warren of the Supreme Court, and other notables, paid homage to the Solicitor General for “outstanding service to humanity through his work at the bar.”
Chairman of the January 8th event, Murray D. Goodrich, stated that Sobeloff’s record includes service as U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland, Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals of Maryland and Chairman of the Maryland Commission on Administrative Organization.
“In honoring the Solicitor General of the United States, “ Goodrich said, “the San Diego Jewish community will be inaugurating its 1956 campaign for Israel Bonds most auspiciously. Israel, the only democracy in the middle-east, faces its greatest crisis. The part we play through our investments in her development may well mean the added strength Israel needs to keep the peace in her part of the world.”
Co-chairman with Goodrich is A.A. Abramson, long prominent in cultural and philanthropic work.
Israel Bond dollars are not invested in military equipment and supplies, Abramson reminded. Instead they help build the agriculture, communications and industrial potential of the country.

We hope the good doctor will forgive us for repeating this story. We thought the patients of Dr. Werner Lehman would know the reason why he failed to keep appointments this week. He witnessed an accident on the highway and while dragging a woman from the back seat of the damaged car and lifting her into his own car, he strained his back. Don’t repeat this story to a boy scout!
