Campaign to honor Jewish chaplains at Arlington gains Filner’s support

WASHINGTON, D.C (Press Release) – Congressman Bob Filner recently announced his support for legislation to honor the memory of Jewish Chaplains who have died while on active duty in the Armed Forces.

“Jewish chaplains have provided invaluable service to members of our military from various faiths for over 65 years,” said Congressman Filner.  “Our country owes them a debt of gratitude for their selfless contributions.”

Chaplains Hill at Arlington National Cemetery already contains memorials to honor the Protestant and Catholic chaplains who have died in service of their country, but lacks a similar memorial for the 13 Jewish chaplains who gave their lives in WWII, the Korean War and Vietnam.

Upon passage, the legislation will create a privately-funded memorial that will provide these Rabbis equal representation with their fellow chaplains in our nation’s most hallowed space.
