Council Presents Drama Reading

On Thursday, Feb. 23, 8:00 p.m. at the Mission Valley C.C., Mr. and MRs. Coffee Chats, of the National Council of Jewish Women, will present Esther W. Moorsteen, in a dramatic interpretation of “Tea and Sympathy.” This is a stirring drama of an adolescent boy and his problems in an exclusive boarding school. Mrs. Moorsteen, a council member, is experienced in dramatic play reading, and has presented programs in many cities.
On March 6, at their luncheon meeting, the Council will present a fashion show, entitled, “San Diego—Heaven on Earth.”
Mayor Dail and other San Diego personalities will be on the program.

Point Loma Youth Dance – The Point Loma Youth group will hold a dance Saturday night, Feb. 18, in the Point Loma Assembly Hall, 3035 Talbot St. (opposite the Cabrillo School). All living in Piont Loma are invited to attend.

Advanced Square Dance – The Advanced Square Dance group will have another ho-down on Saturday, Feb. 18, in the Jewish Community Center, 3227 E. Cajon Blvd., at 8:30 p.m. Those with some square dancing experience are invited to attend. MR. Milo Bales is the caller.

Leadership Skills – The Leadership Skills training course will have its first session on Monday,m Feb. 20 at 7:45 p.m. The course will cover program skills necessary in a well-rounded program.

Adult Drama Group – The beginning of the adult drama group will take place Monday, Feb 20 at 8 p.m., in the Cottage of Israel in Balboa Park. For the convenience of those willing to join this group we will meet in front of the Jewish Community Center at 7:30 p.m. sharp. We will then proceed to the Cottage of Israel.

WAMUS (Single, unattached men and women) – The Wamus Group of single men and women will have a relaxing, recreational evening on Sunday, February 26th at 8 p.m., in the Center. Phone Mrs. Betty Husted, AT 1-9284 evenigs and week-ends and the Center during the week.

Purim Dinner Dance of Tweens – A dressy dress Purim dinner dance for Tweens members (Junior High) will take place Sunday, February 26, 5 p.m. For reservations phone Mrs. Adler, AT 1-4291, admission is $1.50.

Point Loma Branch – Another Family Fun Day will take place on Sunday, February 26, 2 p.m. in the Point Loma Assembly, 3035 Talbot (opposite Cabrillo School). All families in Point Loma are invited to attend.
The adult program for Pint Loma will be launched on Saturday, March 3, at 8 p.m. in the home of Maury Schwartz, 863 Moana rive. The attire for the evening will be pedal pushers, jeans, or what-have-you. A film and discussion led by Mr. Robert Karen, instructor in psychology, San Diego Junior College will be part of the social-cultural evening. All adults are invited to this affair.

Home Auxiliary Holds Card Party

Elaborate plans are being made byu members of the Hebrew Home for the Aged Auxiliary for a Card Party and Luncheon to be held at the Home, 4075 54th St., on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 12 o’clock noon. Mrs. Paul Cudney is general chairman assisted by a capable committee.
A Bingo game will be set up for those who do not arrange their own card games or do not play anything else.
Please make reservations to insure your guests a table by calling the Home JU 2-5168.
Since this is a school holiday arrangements are being made for a baby sitting service. Please make arrangements when making reservations. Beautiful door prizes have been donated for the occasion.

Sarah Newman, 50 years of age, passed away February 7 at a local hospital. She resided at 4715 Miracle Dr and had lived in San Diego for 32 years. She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of Jewish War Veterans.
Mrs. Newman is survived by her husband, Samuel B. Newman – a daughter, Mrs. Donald Dreyfus of San Diego – her father, Meyer Altshuler – two sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Apelman and Mrs. Anna Lichtenstein, both of San Diego – a brother, Sam Altshuler of El Cajon and 2 grandsons.
Funeral services were held at the Lewis Colonial Mortuary on Thursday, February 9 at 2:30 p.m., with Rabbi Monroe Levens and Cantor Joseph Cysner officiating. Internment Shalom Mausoleum.

Yo-Ma-Co Club

The next Yo Ma Co semi annual installation which was scheduled to be held on the 19th of February was postponed until the 26th of February so as not to conflict with the Jewish Community Center’s Annual Dinner.
The next regular meeting of the Yo Ma Co Club will be held on Wednesday night, Febraury 22nd, at 8:30 p.m. Guests are welcome.

Todd Duncan, baritone star of Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bes” will appear in concert at the Russ Auditorium, Weds., Feb. 29, under the management of Wm. King. MR. Duncan will be joined by Miss Gorgia Laster, rising young Negro soprano. She will be remembered for her guest appearance two years ago, with the Summer Symphony, under the baton or Robert Shaw.

Yugoslav Ballet To Be Seen Here

The Yugoslav National folk Ballet received such acclaim or their Eastern performances that they have been booked for two nights, at the Russ Auditorium, on March 19th and 20th. Rave notices appeared in all the New York papers after their Carnegie Hall appearance.
Reservations are now being taken at the Palmer Box Office, 640 Broadway.
