Sportsfishermen around San Diego are eagerly waiting the opening of this area’s newest fishing fleet when Mission Bay Sportfishing Landing opens on March 15.

“And we’ll promise you a fishing trip, not a boat ride,” says Garric O’Bryan, youthful owner of the landing, explaining that boats leaving Mission Bay Sportfishing Landing are less than fifteen minutes away from the famous kelp beds off La Jolla shores. And these beds are alive with such prizes as yellowtail, white sea bass, kelp bass, barracuda and bonita.

Lasker Lodge News
Southwestern Jewish Press, March 16, 1956, Page 3

By Henry Schwartz

“There isn’t room in the Middle east for Israel democracy and Arab feudalism,” declared Fred Yaruss, Chairman of the Zionist Council, to a Lasker Lodge audience, at a recent discussion of the current Irael-Arab crisis.  He further stated that “Arab rulers feel they must crush Israel democracy to avoid internal revolution.”

At the same meeting Past Pres Mickey Fredman discussed the work of the citizens committee appointed by Gov. Knight to study the prevention of juvenile delinquency.  New member, Howard Harris, Assist U.S. Prosecutor in San Diego, revealed the fact that there were more narcotic cases in the last month than any month since he’s been here.

Lasker Lodge voted to mail a monthly newsletter to its membership to replace the bi-weekly postcards. (The newsletter will not run advertisements.)  It will consist of announcements of coming meetings, and articles on Lasker doings.  Sam Bennett heads the publication committee.

USO-JWB

By Claire Kaplan

The Mojave Desert is minus ne dream boat (a fleet in the desert yet) now that PFC Eli Allen has returned to the fold and is stationed once again in San Diego. Such a smile the boy has… fairly warms the old heart.

Our photo-happy Arnie Doren clicks away all his spare hours taking candid camera shots of all and sundry, at the USO dances at Temple Center on Wednesday nights.  ‘Tis a blow to one’s ego, indeed, indeed, viewing the finished product enlarged usually to an 8 x 10 sized horror. … Think not for one moment that the fault lies with the workmanship of our Arnie.  Heavens to Betsy, no… the photography is excellent.  It’s just that those candids are so candid!

The Boots from the Naval Training Center are beginning to pour into the USO, and it can be safely said we have out-Kippled Rudyard himself, 5 to 1 … You know, Boots, Boots, marching up and down and stuff. Welcome Boots, wlcome to our side.
