LA JOLLA, California (Press Release)– The award-winning J*Company Youth Theatre, a program of the San Diego Center for Jewish Culture at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, Jacobs Family Campus, is pleased to announce its production of Children of Eden, A Joyous New Musical based on The Garden of Eden and Noah’s Ark. Performances run May 13 – 22, 2011 at the David and Dorothea Garfield Theatre.
From Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Pocahontas and Prince of Egypt) and John Caird of Les Miserables, comes an inspirational musical for all ages about parents, children and unconditional love. Freely based on the story of Genesis, Children of Eden is a musical that rivals the spectacle of The Lion King with “The Naming of the Animals’ and of course welcoming the animals on the ark. Adam, Eve, Noah and the Father who created them deal with the headstrong, cataclysmic actions of their respective children. The show ultimately delivers a bittersweet but inspiring message that “the hardest part of love…is letting go.” For all ages.
J*Company Artistic Director, and Broadway Veteran, Joey Landwehr will be directing the production and also playing the role of Father. “The plot of Children of Eden deals with parents and children,” said Landwehr. “I often look at these young artists as my children, so I’m honored to have the opportunity to play this role.”
“One of the songs in the show says ‘the hardest part of love is letting go,’” said Landwehr. “As I see these young people grow and then age out of J*Company I feel like the father bird nudging them out of their theatrical nest to watch them fly to new heights. The lyrics could not be more true.”
