San Diego, Israeli bike riders to raise funds to protect school from Gaza rockets

SAN DIEGO (Press Release) — The San Diego Celebrates Israel/Yom Ha’atzmaut will feature an exhilarating 63- mile Bike for Israel to increase awareness about the challenges faced by residents of our San Diego’s partnership region of Sha’ar HaNegev, and to raise funds to benefit them.

These funds will go towards the creation of a new Arts Center within a school that is currently under construction in this Israeli community that is thriving near Gaza, despite frequent Kassam rocket attacks.  Visiting residents from Sha’ar HaNegev will lead the bike ride coordinated by Bike For Israel supporter Rick Kornfeld.

In the past two years 20 bikers have participated in a 5-day bike ride from other parts of Israel eto  Sha’ar HaNegev, Israel as a way of celebrating Yom Ha’atzmaut. This year, 8 cyclists from Sha’ar HaNegev will visit for five days which will include practice rides during their visit, leading up to the 63 and 18-mile on May 15.

A Meet & Greet Tent during the Yom Ha’Atzma’ut festival at Ski Beach on Mission Bay   will offer an opportunity to get to know these bikers and learn about their lives in the Negev.
