An invitation to House of Israel’s reopening

Editor, San Diego Jewish World

Now, for the first time in 63 years, the House of Israel in Balboa Park has been remodeled. Open from 1-4 every Sunday, the House hosts some 15,000 annual visitors—many of whom find in the House their first opportunity to learn of the ancient and contemporary history and culture of Israel.

The public is invited to  join with friends on June 12, 3:30 pm in Balboa Park for the celebration that reopens the House. After being closed for two months for renovation, the work will be completed and the new House will be dedicated.  Jennie Starr, director of Tarbuton, an Israeli Cultural Center, will introduce local talent  Daniel and Becca Myers who will sing the Star Spangled Banner and Hatikvah.

They will be followed by  welcoming  remarks from the Mayor’s office, Councilman Todd Gloria, the Park, and the Israeli Consulate. The Tarbuton’s L’Hakat Rikud, the childrens’ Israeli Dance Troupe will perform to Israeli contemporary music, there will be a blessing for the newly remodeled House, a mezuzah will be placed on the door, and ribbon cutting will follow.

Visitors will be welcomed into the new House to explore the spectacular redo featuring an updated Israeli look with new videos and displays.

Many donors and volunteers have contributed to this makeover. Join to share the pleasure in presenting this modern reflection of Israel with our visitors.
