In an intensified effort to reach $200,000 by May 31, the Campaigner’s Division will have its “One Day” Campaign on Sunday, May 30th, according to William B. Schwartz, Chairman, and his vice-chairmen, Bernard Arenson, Harry Mallen, David Stotsky and Isaac Domnitz.

Completion of the One-Day Drive will be followed on Sunday evening with a report dinner for all workers. Superior Court Judge Stanley Mosk, president of the Los Angeles Community Council, will be the guest speaker.

Judge Mosk will return from Israel on Sunday, May 13, from a four-week visit.  There at the height of the political tension he will present an eye witness report of the present situation in Israel.

“Known as ‘Magic Capret Day,’ it is dedicated to seeing that every Jewish family in San Diego is given the privilege of contributing to this great campaign,” Schwartz said.

Southwestern Jewish Press, May 11, 1956, Page 1

The 1956 United Jewish Fund campaign and the United Jewish Appeal Special Survival Fund reached $180,000 this week in its effort to raise $226,000 for its 45 local, national and overseas beneficiaries and for immigration and resettlement of North African refugees.

As solicitation activity was again speeded up, returns from the Christian Division indicate that non-Jewish contributors are also responding to the campaign appeal for increased giving, it is reported by Carleton Lichty, Chairman.

The Women’s Division completed its three luncheon schedule yesterday for a total in excess of last year’s figure of $32,031, according to Evelyn Roberts, Chairman.

Ruben Umansky and Nathan Golden reported that $550 had been raised in the opening of the Baja California campaign in Ensenada from five individuals. The Tijuana campaign will open  in the next month, according to Golden.

Covering over 1000 Jewish families, the Campaigners Division, led by William B. Schwartz, announced the completion of 50 percent of its job.  The balance would be completed, Schwartz announced, in the big push to take place on “Magic Carpet” Day, Sunday, May 20th.

Areas are continuing their efforts with contributions continuing to come in. Alex Maisel and Maurice Levy in North County report about 75 percent of the job done. Elmer Glaser reports big gifts in the county practically finished.

In Coronado, Stuart Ferer and his committee expect to be completed by May 20th.

Roberts, Schwartz and Harry Sugarman, Chairman of the Pace-Setters, expressed gratification on the early results of the campaign and stated that they hoped to hit $200,000 by the end of May.
