In honor of their forthcoming marriage on June 14, Ethel Ann Mallinger and Sam Sosna have been entertained at luncheons and dinners.  Mrs. Harry Brookler held a luncheon for Ettie at the Lafayette Hotel; Mrs. Bert J. Mallinger’s luncheon was held at the Park Man or; Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Smith held a brunch for the immediate family and close friends in their garden; a social group, consisting of friends of Mr. and Mrs Nat Mallinger, honored the young couple at a dinner held at Bahia, and Mrs. Zel Greenberg will hold a luncheon in her home.

Susan Hutler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hutler,w as awarded a scholarship to washignton University at St. Louis, Mo.

It was a round of parties for Mrs. Jennie Siner during her recent two weeks sojurn with the families of sons Harold, in Lafayette, and Bernard, in San Jose.

Mr. Milton Rawdin wishes to extend appreciation to his friends who joined together to plant 100 trees in Israel, through the Pioneer Women’s Oreganization in San Diego, in memory of his beloved wife, Gertrude Rawdin.

In addition to the graceful Lana Shafer and the talented Barbara Schloss, the Bay City B.B. Women were treated to the impromptu dancing of three year old Shari Garvin and six year old Michele Sacks. The youngsters insisted on performing while Barbara Sang, so their shoes were removed and everyone was happy.

Congrats to Donn Kobernick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hy Kobrnick, on being accepted to the College of Physicians and Surgeons, School of Dentistry, San Francisco.

Al Mishne, son of Mrs. Rose Mishne and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Addleson, whose career in college has been a succession of well earned honors, was named “Many of the Year” at State College on Awards Day.

The 38th wedding anniversary of Molly and Marco Ratner will be honored on May 20 with a family dinner party at the Town & Country Club. The dinner will be given by their children, Mr. and MRs. Woodrow Ratner, Mr. and Mrs Seymour Ratner, and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Grossman.  The Grossmans and son, Alan, will drive to San Diego from Houston, Texas, and will stay with their parents.

Card of Thanks — The members of the family of the late Sam Fischer wish to express their gratitude to their many friends for kindness shown them during their recent bereavement – Diane Fischer, Carol and Arnold.

Betrothal Announced – Mr. and Mrs. Bill Solof announced the engagement of their daughter, Nancy, to Mitchell S. Mohr, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mac Mohr of Los Angeles. 

The couple will be wed on June 8, in the study of Rabbi Morton J. Cohn of Temple Beth Israel.

The local Lions Club made a good choice when they sent Peter Colt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Colt, to Palm Springs as their entry I the Speech Contest. Peter won first prize.

Mrs. Harry (Celia) Schwartz wishes to thank her many friends and organizations who were so kind to her during her illness. She is recuperating nicely and will soon be able to receive visitors.

Evelyn and Yale Naliboff will need strength to lift their son, Jack, who was born on April 21, in Lancaster, Calif.  He weighed in at 9 lbs, 1 oz.  (Grandma Naliboff said he takes after his dad who weighed 9 lbs, 8 0z.)

Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Albert Stuart of Lynch, Nebraska; Paternal grandparents are M. and Mrs. Sidney Naliboff of San Diego.

Mr. and Mrs. Herbert BN. Human (nee Bunny Goodman) of Los Angeles, announced the birth of a baby boy, Robert Mark, on April 27th.

The arrival of the young man makes happy maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred H. Goodman , and Mrs. Sam Hyman, paternal grandmother.

Proudest of all perhaps are the elated great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Brenes.

Mr. and Mrs. Arnold (Bud) Fischer announce the arrival of their first child, Samuel Nathan, on April 23.  He weighed 7 lbs 2 ozs.

Maternal grandparents are M. and Mrs. Leo Tannenbaum of Los Angeles; Paternal grandmother and great grandmother are Mrs. Sam Fischer and Mrs. Z Weinstein, of San Diego.

Mr. and Mrs. Werner Dreyfuss, formerly of Chula Vista now stationed at Colorado Springs, wish to announce the birth of their first child, Joel Howard, born May 3.

Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Martin Simmons of Los Angeles; paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Sam Shapov of Chula Vista, who have left for Colorado Springs to attend the bris.

Women’s League of the Jewish Community Center To Install New Officers

The Installation Luncheon of the Women’s League of the J.C.C. takes place on Friday, June 1st.  Place of meeting, at a later date.

Taking the helm for the new term is Mrs. Al Slayen, president, whose capable leadership, together with the efficient slat of officers, promises continued success for the Women’s League.

The following officers will be installed: Mrs. Al Slayen, president; vice presidents: Mrs. Alice Solomon, Mrs. Edith Gelman, Mrs. Adele Cohen;p recording secretary, Mrs. Betty Karel, corresponding secretaries; Mrs. Lilo Berger and Mrs. Mitzi Spivak;  treasurer; Mrs. Ana Schloss; parliamentarian, Mrs. Fay Fine; financial secretary, Mrs. Rose Aved; historian, Mrs. Jeanette Wax; members of the board, Mrs. Dorothy Solomon, Mrs. Louis Zlotoff, Mrs. Tully Kitaen, Mrs. Jan Rabin, Mrs. Dorothy Tucker, Mrs. Sylvia Rose, Mrs. Ruth Bobrof, and Mrs. Thelma Selten.

Seeks Election For District Supervisor

Henry Dupree, retired Navy officer, is seeking the office vacated by James Robbins, who has stepped down as supervisor of the Third District.

Dupree is an active member of the community and has lived her since 1936.  He has had a good background of experience both in public and private affairs.

(Cancer Incidence)

The cancer death rate among surgeons is one-third lower than that of the general public, reports the American Cancer Society. Evidently surgeons not only know the facts about cancer but act promptly when they see danger signals.
