Three businessmen named to Jewish Community Foundation board

SAN DIEGO (Press Release)–The Jewish  Community Foundation has elected three new prominent community members to join
its Board of Directors.  Marc Channick, Luis Maizel and Brian Miller are widely respected members of the business community and have distinguished themselves as  leaders in the non-profit sector.  Their three-year terms began on July 1, 2011
and all maintain donor advised funds at the Jewish Community Foundation.

“Marc, Luis and Brian bring a wealth of talent, leadership and experience to our Board,” said  Emily Einhorn, Foundation Board Chair.  “Each one of them has a strong track record in community service that will add significantly to the Foundation’s services and strategies.”

Marc Channick brings 15 years of client-focused advisory experience to his role as a founding partner at Delphi Private Advisors.  A 1994 graduate of Harvard Law School, Marc practiced law for a decade in both the private and public sectors before moving into the investment field as an advisor to wealthy individuals and families at Bernstein Global Wealth Management.  Marc also has an undergraduate degree in Economics and Political Science from Brown University.

Active in the community, Marc serves on the finance and investment committees of the Jewish Community Foundation and on the investment committee of the Senior Community Centers; and he is a member of the Board of Directors at Jewish Family Service, where he also sits on the investment committee.  He is a San Diego native and resides in the La Jolla area with his wife and their very spoiled cat.

Luis Maizel, MBA, is the President of LM Advisors, Inc. and the Senior Managing Director of LM Capital Group, the largest Hispanic money manager in the United States. He sits on various other public and private boards of directors including Vibra Bank, Comexhidro and Minera del Pitic.

Luis received a BS in Mechanical Electrical Engineering and an MS in Industrial Engineering from the National University of Mexico as well as an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he graduated as a Baker Scholar, the school’s highest academic honor.  He has lectured at Harvard University, where he was a faculty member, and is regularly invited to speak to students at the graduate schools in the University of California system.

He has served on many non-profit boards including the AMI Montessori and the Ken Jewish Community, and he was president for many years of the HBS Alumni Association in Mexico.  He served on the Wells Fargo Community Board and is in the NAFIN (the Mexican Development Bank) overseas board.  He currently is a trustee of the University of San Diego where he chairs the investment committee.  He also serves on the investment committee of the Jewish Community Foundation.
Brian Miller is the President of Geppetto’s Inc., a chain of specialty children’s toy stores with eight locations in San Diego.  He is a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.  After working for many years at the corporate management level for chain store retailers, Brian returned to San Diego to take over his family’s retail business.  Over the past two decades, Brian has grown Geppetto’s Inc. into one of the largest specialty toy store chains in the country.  He is well-known in the business community for his ingenuity and creativity in the retail market.

Brian has served on both the finance and strategies committees of the Jewish Community Foundation and on the Board of the Jewish Federation of San Diego County.  He currently serves as a member of the Boards of Words Alive Literacy Program and the Good Toy Group.

Brian and his wife Danielle live in La Jolla with their two sons, Nathan, 11 and Jared, 8.  The family is committed to being involved in the local community by supporting public education, child welfare and donating toys to hundreds of preschools, elementary schools and social service agencies focused on San Diego’s youth.
