SAN DIEGO (Press Release)–The College Avenue senior center, operated by Jewish Family Service inside Beth Jacob Synagogue at 4855 College Avenue, has announced its schedule of events for December. They are as follows:
Brain Fitness Registration: The College Avenue Center offers the popular and fun PositScience, Brain Fitness program for the January session. Do you have senior moments, missing conversations, concerned about vision and driving? Students are challenged with memory simulations that can actually help to reshape your brain. Results can include better vision and memory skills. Pre-registration is now open through the month of December. Orientation will be on January 9 and classes begin January 23 through April. Session fee is $25 for members, $35 for non-members. *Register before December 31 and receive a $5 discount.
Wednesday, December 7; 1 – 3 pm
Computer Class: Getting Acquainted With the Computer: Never tried a computer before or very new with them? Wondering what they’re all about? Getting Acquainted is a great starter class to help you become familiar with the computer in an easy going, comfortable class style. This hands-on class will acquaint you with a computer first timers and beginners. Class Fee: $5 for members; $8 for non-members.
Wednesday, December 14; 1 – 3 pm
Wellness on the Web: An Introduction – This hands-on computer class will help you find resources for health related issues. You will get to explore many health related websites recommended by OASIS, including the Better Choices, Better Health online workshop. You will also learn to stay away from inaccurate websites dealing with health topics. A great class to help navigate healthy holiday eating. Class Fee: $5 for members; $8 for non-members.

Dr. Eric Shapira, Clinical Gerontologist Discusses Healthy Aging and his book, A New Wrinkle: What I Learned from Older People Who Never Acted Their Age: Dr. Shapira will share his 8 Sacred Truths about Healthy and Successful Aging and share excerpts from his book, A New Wrinkle. This interactive and uplifting program will give us new insights into the aging process.

Book Club – Feeling a little bookish? Join the monthly Book Group. December’s book is Rembrandt Affair, by Daniel Silva. Read the book before the meeting, then come to the group to discuss. Computer Class: Exploring the Internet – Having trouble finding what you need on the Internet? Come to this class and learn the best way to search for the information you want. You will get to try out some search strategies online with plenty of time to practice. Class Fee: $5 for members; $8 for non-members.
