New Year’s Message of Morris W. Douglas, President United Jewish Fund
Southwestern Jewish Press, September 7, 1956, Page 1
The coming week will see the beginning of the Jewish New Year, 5717. Jews throughout the world and here in San Diego will be celebrating Rosh Hashonah. This is the time when we take stock of our actions for the past year. Jewish men and women everywhere intensify their prayers for those who need help in Israel and in other lands…for those people whose very existence depends on their generous support through such agencies as the United Jewish Fund and through it the United Jewish Appeal.
American Jews in the year 5716 can be proud of their accomplishments in giving all out support to the people of Israel, in providing a haven, and a home and the means of a livelihood to so many.
The officers and the directors of the United Jewish Fund wish you a happy New Year, a happy Rosh Hashonah. And we remind you that your support of the United Jewish Fund, and the United Jewish Appeal, will mean a better year for nearly half a million people in Israel and elsewhere.

City of Hope Sr. Aux.
Southwestern Jewish Press, September 7, 1956, Page 2
Members of the local chapter of City of Hope, who took the recent bus trip and toured through the Medical Center, were impressed with the modern facilities and the attention given the patients. In addition to the 400 bed patients at the City of Hope, an average of 1600 outpatients are treated each month. They rededicated themselves to this great humanitarian center of healing — where no one pays yet everyone received the finest care and treatment available.
The children of Anna Shelley have purchased a title for the “Rainbow of Hope” Friendship Court and one for the “Remembrance Court” in the New Central Service Building. Those interested in having a signature or remembrance tile on the walls of the Central Service Bldg., please contact Esther Berwin.
