Cash Collection Campaign Set To Rush Money To Israel
Southwestern Jewish Press, November 16, 1956, Page 1

William Colt, Treasurer of the United Jewish Fund, announced today that an additional $26,500 was forwarded to the United Jewish Appeal in answer to their urgent appeal for funds. This was $1,500 over the $25,000 requested at this time by the UJA in their campaign to raise $25,000,000 for Israel and Overseas needs by November 30th.

Colt stated that additional monies would be forthcoming as pledges were paid. He urged everyone who has not as yet paid their pledges to immediately send in their check or cash so that the commitments to all of the National Agencies, and especially the Overseas needs, might be met as fast as possible.

With the cash just forwarded, San Diego’s contribution in cash to date to the need of Jews overseas, in North Africa, and in Israel, through the United Jewish Appeal, and Histadrut amounted to $107,643.

Colt said that it is hoped that at least 96 percent of the money will be paid by those who made pledges before the twenty-third Annual Meeting of the United Jewish Fund on December 8.

During the balance of November and the entire month of December a cash collection campaign will be instituted with David Stotsky as chairman, according to Colt.  Mr. Stotsky has led several successful cash collection drives in the past three years. He and his workers  which will include a contingent of members from the local Chapter of Histadrut, will make it a point to see every individual who owes money on their pledge for 1956, as well as those who are delinquent in their payments for previous years.

“Every dollar that we get today may save lives,” Stotsky said. “We know that everyone will cooperate with our committee to raise as much cash as possible.”
