San Diego resident Edward A. Britbard, B’nai B’rith executive Board Member, received a “T-Man” pin from William H. Bratley, western regional director of United States Savings Bonds, for outstanding service in the sale of Bonds in connection with B’nai B’rith’s observance of November and December as “B’nai B’rith U.S. A. Savings Bonds” months.

“For Your and America’s Future” and “For the Big Things in Your Life Be Ready with U.S. Savings Bonds” are current Treasury Department slogans. B’nai B’rith, the world’s largest and oldest Jewish service organization, is urging upon members, families, friends, neighbors and business associates. Bond-A-Month plans at banks, and Bond Payroll Plans are features of their campaign.

Labor Zionists Install Officers Sun., Dec. 18

Poale Zion-Labor Zionist Organization, Chaim Weitzman branch of San Diego, will have their installation of officers Sunday, December 16th at 7:30 p.m. at Tifereth Israel Center.

Rabbi Monroe Levens will be the  installing officer. The following are officers: Dora Richlin, presient; M.S. Berlin, vice-president; Samuel Bloom, treasurer; Tillie Omens, financial secretary; Joseph Olsher, recording secretary, and Abraham Olf, corresponding secretary.

The following are executive officers: Phil Abrams, R. Brooker, David Shertzer and Bertha Veitzer. There will be a program and refreshments.  Admission is free and the community is invited.

New Mr.-Mrs. Club Formed by Hadassah

The Young Mr. and Mrs. Hadassah Club held a Chanukah Party on December 1st which was attended and enjoyed by 100 people.

Herb and Elene Solomon were elected to head the group; Art and Sandy Levinson, Secretary; Hal and Bobbe Hoffer, Treasurer, and Bud and Esther Fisher, Chairmen of Entertainment Committee.

The next monthly affair will be a gala New Year’s Eve Party in the Mission Room of the Mission Valley Inn, at 8:30 p.m. A hot buffet dinner will be served from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.  There will serpentines, noisemakers, original and humorous hats and favors for all. Dancing to a five-piece orchestra, entertainment by a female vocalist and plenty of whoopee has been planned for the evening.

The First White Girl

The first white girl born in New England was Elizabeth, daughter of Pilgrims John Alden and Priscilla Mullens. Her grave is in Little Compton, R.I.

Fund Campaigners Rewarded

Three attractive Women’s Division Vice-Chairmen who receive awards at the 2r Annual Dinner Meeting of the United Jewish Fund.  Mrs. Samuel Friedman, Mrs. Leo Smollar, and Mrs. Jack Binderman.  Mrs. Louis Feller, another chairman, was not present.

Ladies Auxiliary of Home for Aged Held Card Party

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Hebrew Home for the Aged will hold a Community Card Party at the Home, 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Decc. 16.  Mrs. Harry Snyder is a general chairman assisted by members of the Board. Play your favorite game — Bridge, Pan Mah Jong. The donation of $1.00 includes a chance to win a door prize, donated by one of our leading stores.

Mrs. Joe Shulak, Ways and Means Chairman, has asked that everyone bring their own cards and equipment necessary for their games. There will be a Bingo game for those who wish to play. Bring your husbands along.

Refreshments will be served and a pleasant evening is the only business on the agenda. The address of the Home is 4075 54th St.

At the next regular meeting on Wednesday, December 26, instead of lunch, there will be coffee and dessert served at 1 p.m.  A social afternoon of games and cards has been planne.

American Housing Guild Opens Mission Village

Sunday, December 16, the American Housing Guild will hold the Grand Opening of Mission Village, their latest and largest residential development.

Six beautifully landscaped and furnished model homes will be open to the public.  Each has been decorated in a distinctive style from contemporary and traditional.

Mission Village eventually will consist of more than 2000 houses on Kearney Mesa. The models are on the tract, reached via Highway 395 and Aero Drive.

“Hundreds of acres of land have been shaped and contoured in preparation for the huge building job which is just getting under way,” explained Herb Seltzer, sales manager for American Housing Guild.

Hadassah Plans Supplies Luncheon

The Lafayette Hotel on Wednesday, December 18th at 11:30 a.m. will be  the setting for Hadassah’s “Shower of Fun,” co-chaired by Mrs. Jack Brisker and Mrs. Lennie Pearl, Hadassah supplied chairmen.

Hadassah supplies, one of Hadassah’s oldest projects, began in 1916 with a handful of sewing and knitting groups. At the height of its operations nearly three-fourth million dollars worth of goods and supplies were shipped to Israel every year. It has been a veritable lifeline to Israel, providing urgently needed clothing, food, drugs and medical supplies.

“The Fantasy of the Mirror and the Window Pane,” directed by program chairman, Mrs. Leon Solomon, will be presented by Mrs. Jerry Krasne, Mrs. Max Okun, Mrs. Charles Sorkin, and Mrs. H. Malley at the piano.

Mrs. Merwin Sibulkis will give a short address commemorating the birthday of Henrietta Szold, venerated founder of Hadassah. Beth Jacob Sisterhood

The Beth Jacob Sisterhood will meet Monday, Dec. 17, at 10:30 a.m., Beth Jacob Center.  Due to the fact that the regular meeting day is Christmas Day, President Jennie Penn decided to change the date to the regular board meeting date.  She invites members and friends  to attend a special open board meeting and brunch on that day, help with future plans for Sisterhood and spend a social afternoon.

Sisterhood is collecting rummage in conjunction with the Ladies Auxiliary and a rummage sale will be held sometime after the first of the year.  Please bring rummage to Beth Jacob or call “Cookie” Bloomfield at AT-2-9517, or Mitzie Ornstein, JU-2-1274, for rummage  pickup.

Civic Music Presents

Ruggiero Ricci, world-famous violinist, will be the talent presented on the second program at the San Diego Civic Music Association’s schedule for 1956-1957.

Mr. Ricci will perform at the Russ Auditorium on Thursday, December 20, at 8:30 p.m.
