EL CAJON, California (Press Release) – La Mesa attorney Ron Oberndorfer has been elected to chair the Foundation for Grossmont & Cuyamaca Colleges, the fundraising organization for the two East County colleges.
Oberndorfer will begin his term July 1 to lead the foundation, which was incorporated just over a year ago, and continues the work of the two separate foundations that served Grossmont College in El Cajon and Cuyamaca College in Rancho San Diego. The foundation recently established the Possibilities Roundtable, seeking donors who will pledge between $1,200 to $10,000 a year to benefit students and programs at the colleges.
Oberndorfer, who was admitted to the California Bar in 1978, has been a partner with the La Mesa law firm of Fischbeck & Oberndorfer, A.P.C., since 1987. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Redlands with a dual major in economics and business administration, specializing in accounting. He graduated from California Western School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree.
He served as president of the East County Lawyers Referral Service; the Foothills Bar Association; the Wellness Community, San Diego; and as chairman of the East County Regional Chamber of Commerce. He has also served on the boards of the San Diego Jewish Academy, the Olaf Weighorst Museum Foundation, the Grossmont Hospital Corporation, and as a judge pro tempore for the El Cajon Municipal Court.
Beginning July 1, Oberndorfer will also be serving as chair of the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District’s Prop R Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee, which is responsible for overseeing expenditures on the district’s $207 million construction bond approved by voters 2002.
Other officers of the 19-member board are: Mike Hansen, director of the Grossmont Shopping Center, vice-chair; financial advisor Guy Gonzales, treasurer; and Yehudi “Gaf” Gaffen, chief executive officer of Gafcon, Inc., secretary. Rhuan Rogerio, a business relationship manager at Wells Fargo, has been added to the foundation board.
“With this impressive leadership, I’m confident our foundation will reach its goal of helping the colleges remain the academic jewels of East County, assisting students in their dreams of transforming their lives through learning,” said Glenn Kaufhold, chief executive officer of the foundation.
