The Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary will hold a membership luncheon and card party on Tuesday, January 39th, at noon at the North Park Club, 3927 Utah. The luncheon will be catered by the club who promises a pleasing menu. Table prizes and a door prize will be presented to the lucky winners. Prospective members will be guests of the organization. Members donation, $1.00. Although this function is primarily held to obtain new members, the money raised will be used for the Aid-to-Israel program and Veterans Hospital program at Naval Hospital, Balboa Park.

Max Koplowitz, 66, passed away in a local hospital on January 7th. He was a refugee from POland and has lived here four years. His survivors are his wife, Hertha Koplowitz, and his daughter, Mrs. Ruth Vidal and two grandsons.
Graveside services were conducted by the Lewis Colonial Mortuary at the Home of Peace Cemetery on January 10th with Rabbi Baruch Stern officiating.

Israel D. Nuzie, 78, passed away at a local hospital on January 12th. He lived in San Diego for four months. His survivors include his wife, Bessie Nuzie, two sons, Dr. S.B. Nuzie of La Mesa and Solomon of Florida, and a daugther, Mrs. Rebecca Simmons, of El Cajon, also six grandchildren.
Graveside services were conducted at the Home of Peace Cemetery by the Lewis Colonial Mortuary on Monday, January 14th, with Rabbi Baruch Stern officiating.

What To Do For Hungarian Refugees

Latest information received from the national office of the United HIAS Service in New York outlines the following procedure to be followed by U.S. relatives or friends of Hungarians who have fled to Austria.
1. Ask your local Jewish Social Service agency to arrange contact with the proper authorities.
2. An agency will notify immediately the overseas representatives of the national agency of all particulars in the matter.
3. The refugees can then be cabled that the necessary steps have been taken here to expedite their migration and that they are to keep in touch with the Austrian representative of the Jewish agency and with the US Consul.
4. Your local Jewish Social Service agency will keep you informed of every development.
5. Concerning Jews still in Hungary and whether avenues of contact with them still exists, is now being explored.

The regular meeting of the Daughters of Israel will be held Tuesday noon, January 31. Anna Lansky, President, will preside after a delicious luncheon. Rabbi Monroe Levens will be the guest speaker and Cantor Joseph Cysner will offer vocal selections and lead the members in songs honoring those whose birthdays fall this month. Esther Cole, financial secretary, will be on hand to collect dues.
The Daughters of Israel are planning a Purim Dinner and Package Party to be held Sunday, March 17.

Yo-Ma-Co’s To Hold Installation Feb. 10

Vic Silverstein was elected President of the Yo-Ma-Co, and Macy Abrams, Vice-President. Also elected were Cel Wagner, Recording Secretary; Louise Kitaen, Corresponding Secretary; Ralph Baker, Treasurer; Norman Gelman, Membership Secretary; Len Perl, Auditor, and Al Nader, Sergeant-at-Arms.
Outgoing President, Max Okun and his staff have done a fine job in keeping this club for Married Couples progressing for its 21st year.
The club’s next Installation Dinner and Dance will be held on Sunday, February 10, at 7 p.m. in the Lafayette Hotel, Mitzie Spivak is Chairman for the evening and reservations can be made by calling CO-4-6761.

Women’s League, J.C.C. To Hold Swim Fashion Show January 30th

The “Shape of Things to Come” is being presented by the Women’s League of the Jewish Community Center on Wednesday, January 30th, 1:00 p.m. in the Terrace Room of the Lafayette Hotel. A delightful tea, featuring home-made delicacies, will precede the showing of the 1957 line of Rose Marie Reid bathing suits and accessories. In addition to the fashion show, the drawing for the Cosco Table and Chair set will be held.
General Chairman for this event is Mrs. LeRoy Cohn assisted by Mmes. Eugene Tucker, Milton Fredman and Milton Schwartz, Decorations; Mrs. Bernard Kesslere and Mrs. Edward Baranov, Refreshments; Mmes Eugene Berger, Joseph Medak and Jack Pivak, Invitations; Publicity, Mrs. Charles Tennen; Koffee Klatches, Mrs. Willilam Wagner.
The program is under the direction of Mrs. Leon Solomon and Mrs. David Block will narrate the Fashion Show.

On Saturday, January 26, 2 to 4 p.m., the League will hold a membership tea in the Loggia Room of the House of Hospitality in Balboa Park. The tea is being given in honor of new members and guests are welcome. Mrs. Arthur Hanisch of Pasadena, state chairman of continuing responsibilities, will speak on the topic “The League’s Legislative Action Program.” Hostesses will be Mrs. Gilbert Curl, President; Mrs. W. W. Hass, Vice-President; Mrs. Laurence Milne, Mrs. Sidney Goldhammer, Mrs. Alfred Cotcher, Mrs. Kenneth Venn and Mrs. Dougall reith. Mrs. J. Allen Hodges, membership chairman, announces that past presidents of the local league will pour the tea.

Clairemont Group Forms Organization

On January 6, at the Clairemont Community Center, a meeting was held to elect officers of the newly formed Temple Beth El. Elected were: President Max Vickers; Vice-Pres, Dr. Maurice Zemlick; Secretary, Hal Rubins; Asst. Secretary, Joyce Masters; and Treasurer, Robert Hurvitz.
Temple Beth El has been formed to meet the needs of the Jewish community in Clairemont, Pacific Beach and other beach areas. The need for another synagogue has been very great for the people living so far from town. A tentative site for Temple Beth El in the East Clairemont section has been chosen. A Sunday School has been established. Mr. Al Weiss is the acting principal. Most of the teachers are on a voluntary basis.

The Friendly Social Club will hold a program on Sunday, February 3, at 2 p.m. in the Jewish Community Center, 4056 University Ave. All Senior Adults are invited to attend. Refreshments and a social period will follow the planned program.

The National Council of Jewish Women present “The Rumor Clinic” for the senior Adults of the Community on Thursday, January 31, in the Jewish Community Center, at 1 p.m.
Mrs. Harold Garvin of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation League will present the illustrate discussion of prejudice and its origin. As an added attraction, Mrs. Jody Sackheim will sing folk songs, accompanied by herself on the autoharp. Refreshments will be served. No admission charge. All are invited.

The Heart Dance of the Tween age group will be held on Wednesday, February 13, from 7 p.m on in the University Ballroom. The Junior High Dance will feature a live band and refreshments. Boys and girls in the 7th and 8th grades and boys in the 9th grade are invited to attend.

On Thursday, February 14, the Rhythm Rockers Dance Band will play for the Teens’ Sweetheart dance in the Jewish Community Center.
Refreshments will be served by the hostess committee of teenagers. The age range for this dance is 14 through 18 years. High school kids are invited.

The ballet Russe de Monte Carlo is slated for an appearance in San Diego Monday and Tuesday, February 18 and 19, at the Russ Auditorium.
This celebrated company, headed by Nina Novak and assisted by Yvonne Chouteau, Irina Borowska and Igor Youskevitch as the premier danseur, will perform two new ballets.
On Monday the program will be “Gaite Parisienne,” “Pas de Trois,” and “Halequinade.”
On Tuesday, the will perform “Giselle,” “Cirque de Deux,” and “Sombreros.”

The next meeting of the Bay City B’nai B’rith Women will be held Monday, February 11, at 8:30 p.m. at the Tifereth Israel center. Frieda Hollandersky and her committee have planned a very interesting ADL program.
President Rose Schwartz and Chairman Ann Bloock wish to thank their members and their husbands for their all-out support on the March of Dimes campaign.
Plans are under way for the Donor Dinner Dance to be held Sunday, March 3, at the Mission Valley Inn.
