JWV Auxiliary organizer Thelma Menaker dies at 91

 

SAN DIEGO — Thelma B. Menaker, an organizer and former commander of the Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary Post 185,  died Nov. 21, 2012 at the age of 91. Born in Philadelphia she moved in 1974  to San Diego with her husband,  Alfred, a World war II veteran who survives her..

Menaker  worked for the Navy as a bookkeeper and retired in 1986. In addition to her JWV work,  Menaker volunteered for the House of Israel and served as president.

 

She loved the theater and opera doing volunteer ushering for many years. She enjoyed travel, sewing, and crocheted over 30 afghans for friends and family, completing one for each of her four newest great grandchildren in this past year.

Besides her husband of 68 years, survivors include her 3 children Brett (Carol), Miriam (Marc), and Donald (Brenda); eight grand children and 16 great-grandchildren. Internment was at Miramar National Cemetery on Nov. 28.
