Hats Off to Fund Office Volunteers
Southwestern Jewish Press, April 19, 1957, Page 6

“Volunteers are the real backbone of the campaign.”  This statement was echoed by Albert A. Hutler, Executive Director of the United Jewis Fund.

There is a group of unseen, unheard of volunteers that Rose Mishne, Office Manager of the Fund, knows all about. These are the men and women who each day come up to the Fund office to give their time in getting out the mailing, helping in keeping the records, and in general keeping the machinery running that sends out the work to the people of the field.

Fund leadership and Fund staff take off their hats to the following volunteers who have given service in the office of the United Jewish Fund during this period of the campaign:

Mr. and Mrs. Jose Krone, Mrs. Edith Lavender, Mrs. Parsons, Mrs. Isaac Domnitz, Mrs. Edith Bernheimer, Mrs. Raymond Bass, Mrs. Annette Leonard, Mrs. Rose Leaf, Mrs. Anne Block, Mrs. Herbert Malley, Mrs. Harry Goodwin, Mrs. Arthur Meyer, Mrs. Sadie Breitbard, Mrs. Jeanette Parks, Mrs. Zena Frommer, Mrs. Rose Omens, Mrs. Molly Samuels, Mrs. Rosner, Mrs. Max Popik.

These are the real unsung heroes of the 1957 United Jewish Fund Drive for $295,000.

Servicemen’s Programs To Be Continued
Southwestern Jewish Press, April 19, 1957, Page 6

The UJF Fund Committee, headed by Rodin Horrow, will recommend that the local serviceman’s program be continued in San Diego as a local organization financed by the Federation of Jewish Agencies through the United Jewish Fund.

The committee’s recommendation will be discussed on April 23 by the Directors of the Fund. Mr. Horrow said that the recommendations were based on a careful study over the past two months, since the withdrawal of funds from the national JWB-USO program in San Diego.

Horrow pointed out that the Fund and the Federation would be asked for about $4,000 for the next 9 months operation. This would include a full-time administrative assistant, necessary office expenses and refreshments and program expenses.

The report also pointed out that the United Jewish Fund was financing the Passover seders for servicemen in the area, while Passover religious supplies were being provided by the National Jewish Welfare Board.

It also stated that the National Jewish Welfare Board provides religious supplies and materials to the Jewish chaplains in the area for their religious and cultural programs throughout the year, while the local agencies such as the Jewish Social Services Agency and the Jewish Community Center supply counseling and assistance for dependents when necessary.

Under the arrangements contemplated in the report, professional supervision will not only be provided by the local Federation-Fund Executive, but will be aided by Mr. Jules Cohen, Executive Director of the USO-JWB Area office at Los Angeles.
