SAN DIEGO (Press Release) – On January 12, the Jewish Federation of San Diego County will host more than 1,000 women philanthropists for a lunch event with world famous sex therapist Dr. Ruth Westhiemer at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront.

OPTIONS, celebrating its 21st year, is the centerpiece of the Federation’s Women’s Philanthropy campaign, serving as its most vital outreach and engagement program. The nearly 1,000 women who attended last year’s event (the largest gathering of Jewish women in San Diego history) established a ground-breaking level of primary involvement and support for Federation, and this year promises to be even more momentous.

Dr. Ruth Westheimer, who has earned fame and acclaim for her pioneering radio and TV shows and books on what she has labeled “sexual literacy,” will be the OPTIONS keynote speaker. After being sent to Switzerland as a child in 1938 from her birthplace in Germany, Dr. Ruth went to Israel, where she fought for the country’s independence with the Haganah. She then moved to the U.S., where she obtained a master’s degree and doctorate in education, and went on to establish a remarkable career that has made her name a household word.

“We have no doubt that Dr. Ruth’s presence will add both spice and substance to this year’s OPTIONS,” commented Lisa Kornfeld, Women’s Philanthropy Campaign Chair. “We are looking forward to Dr. Ruth helping us welcome women of all ages — those who are new to Federation as well as those who are veterans in our community.”

Co-chaired by Karen Kogut, Ingrid Shulman and Laura Vainer, OPTIONS will be held at 1 p.m. at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. The couvert will be $36, thanks to the generous underwriting of the Fischer Family Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation. Attendees will be asked to make a meaningful gift to the Federation Campaign.  Registration is at http://options2014.eventbrite.com.
