SAN DIEGO-Since Hollywood loves sequels to successful movies and stories “ripped from the headlines,” production has begun on films that mix these genres. Here are some scripts currently under consideration.
American Tussle-An American diplomat futilely tries to convince obstinate Israeli and Palestinian leaders that making peace is better than descending into an endless cycle of terrorism and lethal reprisals.
*
Alaska-A failed vice-presidential candidate suffers from political dementia. She doesn’t remember why she lost and embarks on a journey from Alaska to Washington D.C. under the delusion that she still can be on the winning ticket.
*
Captain Backups –A powerful state governor hijacks a bridge and causes enormous traffic jams until he is hunted down by the US Department of Justice. John Goodman will play the governor.
*
Gravity-This is Al Gore’s sequel to An Inconvenient Truth. The title describes how much more serious global warming has become since the making of the first film.
*
Her 2 –A clone of a former first lady runs for president in the hope that Americans will fall in love with her virtual self.
*
The Hunger Games: Catching Liars-Having cut their food stamps and long-term unemployment benefits, politicians set up means and drug testing programs to assure the takers starve to death.
*
The Malice Sellers Club– A cable network specializes in news stories that slander their political enemies and promulgate conspiracy theories. Pretty Foxy, huh?
*
Twelve Years a Knave-A look at the political career of a right-wing demagogue and how his mind is enslaved to a reactionary vision for America. Ted Cruze will play himself since he is always acting.
