Humoring the headlines: April 9, 2014

SAN DIEGO-A Chinese ship detected pings while combing the Indian Ocean for the crash site of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.  While some observers believe this will lead to finding the wreckage of the plane, others think that the Chinese also detected an alternating series of pongs emanating from the ship’s game room.

Diane Feinstein condemned the CIA for misinforming the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence by concealing the extent and severity of the torture inflicted on Islamic extremists during the Bush Administration.  The CIA camouflaged its activities by using code words like enhanced interrogation for intensive terrorization, face surfing for water boarding, and free trip for extraordinary rendition.

The Ukrainian attack dolphins seized by the Russia when it occupied the Crimea have escaped and defected to the Sea World in Orlando.  Upon viewing the documentary Blackfish, they organized a paramilitary resistance pod.

Jeb Bush called illegal immigration an act of love by immigrants seeking to improve the lives of their families.  Rick Perry responded by calling deportation an act of tough love.

The passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act is being celebrated this week at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library.  Meanwhile, the Supreme Court and Republican state legislatures continue to issue rulings and pass legislation to make sure that the country never makes the same mistake again.
