WASHINGTON, D.C. (Press Release)–U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.)—a lifelong Vikings fan, and a supporter of Minnesota’s bid to host the 2018 Super Bowl—made the following statement after it was announced on Tuesday, May 20, that the state’s bid was successful:
“Minnesota’s winning bid to host the 2018 Super Bowl is exciting news, not only for the Twin Cities and the state of Minnesota, but also for the entire Midwest region.
“I want to congratulate everyone involved in putting together Minnesota’s Super Bowl bid, from the Vikings, to our local and state officials, to our business community who combined to showcase Minnesota as the top choice for the biggest game of the year.
“Most of all, I want to thank all of the Minnesotans, who for more than 50 years have strongly supported the Vikings, and who strongly backed our state’s efforts to put together the winning bid. Minnesota has a great story to tell and I’m sure we’ll all get to work to ensure that the 2018 Super Bowl is an experience to remember for the hundreds of millions of people across the country and around the world who will have all eyes on Minnesota.”
