seacrest village logoENCINITAS, California (Press Release) – Guardians of San Diego’s 23rd Annual Golf & Tennis Tournament presented by The William Gumpert Foundation raised more than $150,000 this year. Proceeds from “Take a Swing for Seniors” held July 28th will benefit the Resident Assistance Fund at Seacrest Village Retirement Communities.

Guardians of San Diego hosted 122 golfers and tennis players at Monday’s event at the exclusive Del Mar Country Club. The golf tournament began at noon with a shotgun start on the beautiful course designed by American golf architect, Joseph Lee. Tennis players competed in a “King of the Court” drill on six tennis courts identical in surface and color to the courts used at the US Open. On the course, golfers quenched their thirst with ice cold beverages including beer donated by Fat Cat Beer Company.

The all-day event also included a silent auction, BBQ buffet lunch, V’s Barbershop sunscreen station, cocktail style reception and an awards program in Del Mar’s private Club House. The hot item in the auction was the opportunity to fund a Frozen Yogurt Machine to keep residents, family and friends cool at the Seacrest Village Encinitas campus; other auction items included golf at The Bridges, The Crosby, The Country Club of Rancho Bernardo along with date nights, family trips and beauty packages for men and women, a limited edition Wyland lithograph and much more.

Tournament winners include Lifetime Member of the Guardians of San Diego, Earl Altshuler, Paul Cohen, Gary Pollak and Jeffrey Pollak in first place for golf; Raphael Bernal, Joe Henrichs, Jenny Liu and Ryan Robinson in second place for golf; Steven Kavy and Sheila Weinstock for tennis. Contest winners are Paul Stubbs for Men’s Closest to the Pin, Jenny Liu for Women’s Closest to the Pin, Curtis Burkhead for Longest Drive and Chris Warren for Straightest Drive. “Charitable care is assistance for those whose savings have been depleted due to illness or injury and for those who simply have no one to turn to for help,” said Devin Chodorow, President of the Guardians of San Diego and Co-Chair of the 2014 Tournament Committee. “Requests for charitable care exceed nearly 1.7 million dollars annually, and thanks to all of you here today, we have been able to raise over $100,000 today to support this need.”
