ENCINITAS, California (Press Release)– The chances of hitting a hole-in-one, for the average handicap golfer, are approximately 12,000 to 1. On Monday, July 27th at the Guardians of San Diego’s 24th Annual Golf & Tennis Tournament, Constantino “Connie” Salios of Huntington Beach beat those odds and recorded an ace during the charity golf event to benefit Seacrest Village Retirement Communities and earned a 2015 Audi A3 sponsored by Hoehn Carlsbad.
“I’ve been playing golf for over 40 years and this is my first hole-in-one ever,” shared Salios who has participated in the Guardians of San Diego Tournament since 2012. He was on the 3rd Hole of the Del Mar Country Club course in Rancho Santa Fe. From 181 yards out with a 6 iron, Connie hit his ball, but didn’t see it go in. Two volunteers from Seacrest Village witnessed the ace and cheered to tell the foursome consisting of longtime friends Al Olsen, Gary Smolin, Paul Stubbs and Connie Salios.
It was a very exciting day for the 130 golfers and tennis players who participated in the annual tournament presented by The William Gumpert Foundation which raised more than $150,000 this year. Proceeds from “Take a Swing for Seniors” will support the provision of charitable care for residents of Seacrest Village.
The all-day event included a silent auction, wine pull, raffle, BBQ buffet lunch, cocktail style reception and an awards program in Del Mar’s private Club House. The hot item in the auction was a Michael Jordan autographed Peter Max lithograph; other auction items included golf at Brentwood, The Bridges, The Farms, Hillcrest Country Club, SeaCliff Country Club and La Jolla Country Club along with date nights, family trips and beauty packages for men and women.
Tournament winners include Maria Chan, Steve Cusato, Angus McDonald and Toby Taitano representing City National Bank in first place for golf; Danny Wax, Marshall Wax, Glenn Goodstein and Steve Ludwig representing Forelinx in second place for golf; Ann and Steven Kavy tied for first place in tennis; Dennis Lavine in second place for tennis. Contest winners are Connie Salios who hit the hole-in-one for Closest to the Pin, Jenny Liu for Longest Drive and Jeff Foudy for Straightest Drive. Phyllis Levin won the sold out raffle drawing for 6-nights in a 2-Bedroom Villa for either Sirena del Mar in Cabo San Lucas or Northstar Lodge in Lake Tahoe sponsored by Welk Resorts.
