ENCINITAS, California (Press Release) –Cartoonist Bruce Eric Kaplan, also known as BEK, will discuss his memoir I Was A Child at 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 8, at Temple Solel, 3575 Manchester Avenue, as part of the San Diego Jewish Book Fair sponsored by the Center for Jewish Culture.
Kaplan’s single-panel cartoons, which often appear in The New Yorker, are known for their signature simplistic style and often dark humor. Kaplan is also a screenwriter and has worked on “Seinfeld”, “Six Feet Under” and a producer of the HBO series “Girls”.
Kaplan’s novel, I Was a Child is the story of his childhood in words and drawings, in which he recalls growing up in New Jersey with his parents and two older brothers. He treats routine and life-changing events with quick wit and tender observation. It would seem like a conventional Jewish childhood, although Kaplan’s anecdotes are accompanied by his signature drawings of family outings and life at home. .
General admission tickets are $10.50; JCC members $8.50
