SAN DIEGO — Violinist Zina Schiff will be at Tifereth Israel Synagogue this Sunday afternoon, Jan. 17, at 3 p.m., to introduce the MGM Academy Award-nominated movie The Fixer. Schiff’s solo violin playing is heard throughout the movie score, which was composed by Maurice Jarre.
Jarre is famous for scores to such movies as Dr. Zhivago and Lawrence of Arabia.
Schiff, whose most recent CD included works by Franck, Bloch, and Krein (MSR Classics) was deemed “ravishingly beautiful,” (Atlantic Audio Reviews), will share a few memories about working on The Fixer‘s score.
The Fixer, based on the Pulitzer Prize winning book by Bernard Malamud, stars Alan Bates. The story is inspired by the Beilis case, when an innocenet Jewish handy man was the subject of a blood libel.
Tifereth Israel is at 6660 Cowles Mountain Boulevard, a block north of Navajo Road. The screening is part of the TIS-Braun Library Series and there is no admission charge.
