SAN DIEGO (Press Release) — Stav Shaffir, the social justice activist and protest leader who became the youngest female Member of Knesset (MK) in Israel’s history, “is bringing her message of peace and hope to San Diego this month,” according to J-Street.
On Tuesday, April 12th, she will appear at San Diego’s Temple Emanu-El to discuss the current Israeli political landscape, prospects for peace and her efforts to advance government transparency, social justice and economic equity in Israel. The event is sponsored by the San Diego chapter of J Street.
“We are so pleased that Stav Shaffir is coming to San Diego,” said J Street’s Eylon Shamir. “It is vital that our Jewish community hear the voices of peace, hope and change that are rising in Israel.”
Formerly a journalist and social activist, Shaffir became one of the leaders of the Israeli social protest movement that brought hundreds of thousands of Israelis into the streets in the summer of 2011. During her first term in Knesset, as a Labor Party member of the Finance Committee, “she exposed Israel’s secret budget and fought to stop corrupt usage of taxpayers’ money,” J Street said. She has been featured in Time, The New York Times and on BBC, and her columns have been published in Ha’aretz and the Jewish Review of Books.
