LA JOLLA, California (Press Release) – The San Diego Jewish Film Festival presented by the San Diego Center for Jewish Culture at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, Jacobs Family Campus, will launch the 27th season Underwriter kickoff party and the San Diego premiere screening of In Search of Israeli Cuisine directed by Roger Sherman on Sunday, August 21, at 5 p. m. at the David & Dorothea Garfield Theatre.
In a gastronomical expedition, celebrity Michael Solomonov, a James Beard Award winning chef and co-owner of acclaimed Zahav in Philadelphia, zigzags Israel to savor a food revolution rooted in centuries-old tradition. Israel’s food scene is among the most dynamic in the world, extending beyond falafel and hummus to include tasty ethnic and regional specialties. The filmmakers follow Solomonov into “hot” restaurants, home kitchens, wineries, street vendors and markets. All over the country, he discusses traditions, ingredients, the origins, and the future of Israeli Cuisine. Combining a procession of mouthwatering dishes and interviews with chefs, home cooks and farmers of all backgrounds, Oscar-nominated documentarian Roger Sherman presents a diverse portrait of the Israeli people told through the very personal language of food.
