NEW YORK –Despite the very mixed reviews of his recent visit with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto in Mexico City, Donald Trump has accepted an invitation to go to Israel to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and address the Knesset.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has not yet responded to the invitation sent to both major-party candidates for U.S. President.

An Israeli source familiar with the arrangements, who asked to remain unidentified, said the invitations were extended to give the candidate a chance to “outdo one another in proclaiming their love of Israel.”

And, he added, they might see it as an opportunity to win votes with American Jews, in Florida and elsewhere.

Trump, in accepting the invitation — date of the visit to be determined — first tweeted “I’ve always loved Palestine.” That message was quickly corrected with another tweet:  “Just kidding. Love Israel, an incredible country.”

Pointing out that one daughter and  a son-in-law are Jewish and “so are their kids,” he later wrote: “I have many, many Jewish friends. So many friends. An incredible people. They’re immigrants I would welcome to the USA.”

Asked if he would answer questions from reporters, Trump said, “Absolutely, if they’re submitted in advance. I want to make sure they’re not rigged like the ones U.S. media ask.”
On other aspects of the projected trip:

He’s happy that. while in Israel, he’ll be staying in the King Donald Hotel, he said with a chuckle.

With his obsession about walls, his hosts will surely take him to the Western Wall, the Israeli source said.

He’d like to “dance with a hora” [his expression] and most certainly wants to visit some Israeli beaches. “I’ve heard that the saber [his word] women are 10’s.”
