SAN DIEGO (Press Release) –Prof. Lawrence Baron will be guest speaker at the Beth Israel Men’s Club dinner forum on May 17. Baron’s topic is “The Wandering View: The Jewish Immigrant in World Cinema.”
Baron is Professor Emeritus of Modern Jewish History at San Diego State University. He taught Modern Jewish History at San Diego State University, where he served as Director of the Lipinsky Institute for Judaic Studies between 1988 and 2006. He was also the Ida King visiting Professor at the Richard Stockton University of New Jersey in the Fall of 2015.
He was educated at the University of Illinois-Urbana, and the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where he earned a Ph.D. in Modern European Intellectual History. Baron is also the author of The Modern Jewish Experience in World Cinema and Projecting the Holocaust into the Present: The Changing Focus of Contemporary Holocaust Cinema.
Professor Baron also writes for San Diego Jewish World and has authored many publications including The Altruistic Personality: Rescuers of Jews in Nazi Europe.
