Center for Jewish Culture tells 2018-19 lineup

SAN DIEGO (Press Release) — The San Diego Center for Jewish Culture (CJC) housed within the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center (JCC) announced its 2018-19 performing arts season, featuring a diverse group of acclaimed guests, prolific performers, poignant film presentations and much more. Some highlights of this year’s lineup include comedians Sandra Bernhard and Paula Poundstone; folk legend Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary; the incomparable Isabella Rossellini; three-time Grammy nominee Bettye LaVette; and world-renowned master mentalist Lior Suchard.

Expanded due to popular demand, the San Diego’s Jewish Film Festival’s Joyce Forum Day of Shorts will make its debut as its own festival Oct. 6-7, 2018. The Joyce Forum Short Film Festival will feature short documentary, narrative and animated films accompanied by a prolific roster of guest speakers and directors.

The nationally recognized and award-winning JCompany Youth Theatre returns with a slate of new performances including Disney’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” Disney’s “Newsies Jr.,” “Madagascar Jr.” and “1776,” a musical about the drafting and signing of the Declaration of Independence featuring an all-female cast. All performances will be held at the David and Dorothea Garfield Theatre.

The season will kick off Aug. 19, 2018, with “Sam Spiegel: Conquering Hollywood,” an evening devoted to learning about one of the most enigmatic and controversial producers who fled the specter of Nazi Germany in 1933. The following 10 months will feature prolific performers, dynamic discussions, culinary authorities and more serving up laughs, insight, entertainment and inspiration.
