Protection against Iran and Hezbollah needed after U.S. withdraws from Syria — AIPAC
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) on Thursday issued the following statement concerning President Trump’s decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria.
“With the decision announced yesterday to immediately withdraw U.S. troops from Syria, it is imperative that Iran and Hezbollah are prevented from exploiting this development to further destabilize the region and threaten our allies. The administration should work with our regional allies and take steps to counter the mounting aggression of Iran and its terrorist proxy Hezbollah. Iran must not be allowed to have a permanent military presence in Syria, which is counter to U.S. interests and threatens the peace and security of the region.” — From AIPAC

Assemblymember Levine to help needy on both sides of the border Christmas Day
Assemblymember Marc Levine will spend Christmas Day with Central American migrants on both sides of the border where families wait for a chance to seek asylum in the United States.
Assemblymember Levine, D-Marin County, has been vocal in his opposition to federal zero-tolerance policies at the border, and has specifically called out the needless cruelty of separating parents and children simply because they seek refuge. In 2016, he authored AB 900 that provides for legal guardianship of unaccompanied minors while they petition for special immigration status. This year, he authored AB 2642 to allow responsible nonprofit organizations to serve as legal guardian for those purposes. Both bills were signed into law.
He plans to provide Christmas lunch to families at a shelter in San Diego and provide toiletries to those still waiting in Tijuana.
“I will spend Christmas Day with families who are fleeing brutality and oppression,” said Levine. “They have come to the United States to seek asylum, and the United States should meet its obligation to adjudicate their claims for asylum. This is a season to open our doors to people who need our help most.”
No taxpayer dollars will be used for the trip. — From Assemblymember Marc Levine
