POWAY, California (SDJW)– Brian Spongberg, whose family owns the Wendy’s franchise at 10536 Crafsman Way in San Diego, was at his restaurant April 27 when he learned of the shooting that day at the Chabad of Poway.
Deeply saddened, “I got in touch with Rabbi Goldstein and came up with this idea to raise money” — donating “100 percent of proceeds from any purchases made on (Thursday), May 16th from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. to Chabad of Poway to support the victims,” Spongberg said.
Observant Jews, unable to eat Wendy’s non-kosher food, have another option, Spongberg said. “We are allowing people to just donate and we are giving 100% of those donations to Chabad of Poway,” the restaurant owner added.
Although he himself is not Jewish, he said, “I have many Jewish friends and people close to me that are Jewish. I have attended many Passovers and Shabbat dinners with friends and loved ones.
“I was just deeply saddened by this tragedy that happened so close to me and I wanted to do something to give back.”
