Tel Aviv Foundation applauds San Diegans’ philanthropy
San Diego County residents are featured in a recent newsletter from the Tel Aviv Foundation. Brian and Nancy Malk helped to dedicate the Jaffa Seaside Park, which stands today where there once was a mountain of garbage.
Aaron and Uri Feldman dedicated the Feldman kindergarten in honor of their late father and grandfather.
A donation in the name of the late Lou Dunst was made by trustee Reina Shterenberg to Warm Homes, an after-school program providing education and nourishment for children from low income families in Tel Aviv.

Father Joe Carroll endorses Joe Leventhal for City Council
Attorney Joe Leventhal has been endorsed in his 5th District San Diego City Council District by Father Joe Carroll, who was the longtime leader of the St. Vincent de Paul Center which serves the homeless population downtown.
“I’ve dedicated my life to helping our city’s homeless population, and I trust Joe to be an advocate for our neighbors in need on the City Council,” Father Carroll said. “Joe is seeking new ideas to help our city’s most vulnerable, and I support his approach to helping our homeless.”

Rabbi Dorsch and Cantor Leberman star in Tifereth Israel High Holy Days video
Rabbi Joshua Dorsch and Cantor Hanan Leberman have released a video promoting High Holy Day services at Tifereth Israel Synagogue in San Diego. The video, embedded above this column, features Leberman singing a song celebrating the arrival of the Hebrew month of Tishrei, in which the High Holy Days occur, and Dorsch highlighting some of the activities that will occur at the Conservative synagogue during the High Holy Day season.

Israeli Idol Hagit Yaso to perform at StandWithUs gala
StandWithUs San Diego is bringing singer Hagit Yaso to town to perform at its gala dinner Sunday, Oct. 27. Yaso, an Ethiopian Israeli, was the winner of Season 9 of Israeli Idol, and since has performed songs in Hebrew, Amharic, English and Moroccan languages at concerts around the world.
She and her father recently filmed a documentary highlighting the musical culture and beautiful scenery of Ethiopia. She also was selected to perform at the recent opening ceremony of the United States Embassy.
The gala, to be held at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, will hear radio host and author Larry Elder as keynote speaker and will be emceed by Barak Raviv, a StandWithUs national board member who is a senior vice president with Morgan Stanley.
Theme of the gala is “Standing Together Against Anti-Semitism.” Prospective attendees may register online.

Meet the Family Eilfort
Rabbi Yeruchem Eilfort and Nehama Eilfort of Chabad of La Costa have lots of reasons to schep nachas. Married for 30 years, they have eight children and eight grandchildren. Nechama Eilfort was kind enough to share with me the names of her and Rabbi Eilfort’s progeny In age order, they are:
